Re: Another bargain!
The last disc to be released for the 406 Sat Nav was in 2006. The manufacturer still sells it as new - £80 for the UK only!
Now, if I had bought one of the last 406s to be sold in the UK (in 2004), I'd be a little bit pissed off if the sat nav discs stopped being updated less than 2 years after buying my car with sat nav in.

Re: Another bargain!
I thought that 2.2 had been sold. It disappeared off Autotrader & Ebay & now it's back on Gumtree with another £200 knocked off. It's a far cry from the £2300 it made in the Ebay auction the first time round. Only selling because he wants a van could easily translate to only selling because I've spent a fortune & now I'm sick of it going by his list of anti-pollution expenditure. I'm sure he could've px'd for a van by now & got pretty close to what he's looking for now without running the risk of somebody giving him a kicking when they get down the road & find something else wrong that he hasn't mentioned (I still reckon clutch change may be coming up soon with that one).
It just goes to show that good 406s are hard to find these days - although as with any car, the bad ones are never too far away.

If I had a Navman I'd be dumping it. We use them on the trucks at work & the overall package is useless. We have the AVL 2 system which is ok for tracking where the trucks are, but the actual sat nav side of things is dreadful. One minute it gives routes based on the fact that you may be driving an artic & it'll send you 20 miles out of the way so that you can use a motorway to get where you're going, but the next minute it's telling you to go down a road with a 7.5 ton weight restriction & a low bridge. Before anybody suggests it, there is an option in the sat nav unit itself that allows you to specify the length, weight & height of the vehicle you are driving - it still tried to send the truck down a 7.5 ton weight limit when set up for a 40ft artic!Sonia406 wrote: New battery cost £7 which is significantly cheaper than I could get a decent sat nav. I must hunt around on Flea-bay, but last time I looked even the newer software was £20, including cables and well..... £20 is £20 I'd rather spend elsewhere

I know what you mean, she has caused some grief before BUT at the moment, I rather spend £7 on a new battery to keep her alive than to spend loads more on getting a better one.
I DID use my iPhone on Google Maps for a sat nav the other day but when I got a text in; well it became a nuisance. I rather keep this sat nav going than to have nothing and credit to it, although old it is quite a good little machine.

Re: Another bargain!
We had a garmin sat nav which was good about 5 years ago, but the updates were about £80, it was cheaper just to buy the tom tom iphone app which is much better and updates itself.
For 2002 the sat nav in the 406 wasnt really fantastic, it might have been an early version but by 2002 other car companys had already offered proper sat nav in their cars.
But your right the second trip computer and higher resolution display is nice when it works.

I was a bit disappointed to find that it was £100 for lifetime updates on my Garmin, but that also included road maps for the whole of Europe which was really helpful for our trip to Disneyland Paris at the time.FarmerPug wrote:We had a garmin sat nav which was good about 5 years ago, but the updates were about £80, it was cheaper just to buy the tom tom iphone app which is much better and updates itself.
I was actually quite chuffed that my 406 only had the normal MFD as there seem to be lots of problems with the later displays & I could happily live without the extra computer features if it meant that the screen was pretty reliable & only about £30 to replace if it ever did break. In fact I had decided a short while ago that if I'd managed to get a newer 406 with the funky display I was going to downgrade to the basic MFD if there was anything wrong with the existing display. I still think it's a pretty poor show that you can't get an update for the satnav though. It should be a generic thing that's common to all Peugeot sat navs. My 530d was a 2000/W, but it came with a 2008 sat nav disc & if I'd really wanted to make use of the sat nav, the newest discs available would have still been as ok in that as they would have been in a 2012 model.FarmerPug wrote:For 2002 the sat nav in the 406 wasnt really fantastic, it might have been an early version but by 2002 other car companys had already offered proper sat nav in their cars.

Re: Another bargain!
Didn't actually use it as such as the 2008 sat nav disc was 4 years out of date compared to the 2012 updated Garmin, but did have a play with it at home & it looked ok. Not as user friendly as a Garmin, but then it was a 12 year old system. All the newer discs did was update the mapping with new roads.FarmerPug wrote:Was the bmw sat nav a good system?

Re: Another bargain!
18mpg around town was a bit too much to stomach at the time. Also, the boss decided we were going to start taking the dogs for a wash again (funny how she did that so soon after selling an estate car that they'd never been in), so I sold it on & bought the Partner. It was fun to drive, but probably would have got me a couple of points on the license if I'd kept it for a while anyway. I was getting to be a bit of a hooligan with all the extra power!FarmerPug wrote:If you dont mind me asking what happened to the bmw, i was offline for a while at the time all i can remember was you sold the 406 and got the bmw.

Re: Another bargain!
Holy thread hijack! This one's world class.
On the subject of satnavs, Nitric's normally accosts me with, 'Navigation CD unreadable', so I've never persevered with learning how to drive it. Occasionally, when the head unit's off, it will surprise me by reporting what road it's on, (so long as nothing's changed since 2003).
Thursday last, on the outskirts of Bournemouth, I turned off the stereo to better hear what my TomTom Start 60, (aka FatNav), had to say and noted the MFD message, 'Non-digitised area'. (My natural empathy led me to give the local Audi and Range Rover set the finger whenever possible, to redress this balance as far I could on a fleeting visit. One does what one can). A little nearer to my destination, (still in Bournemouth), Mme la Satnav announced we were on the A6, Bletsoe, Bedfordshire.
TomTom won, Navtec didn't.
Getting back to the scouse 2.2 exec, anyone care to venture an opinion as to what it's really worth?

Re: Another bargain!
Decent condition 2.2s with anti-pollution faults or EML lights on usually seem to land at just under or just over £1000. I'd still wager that one of the main reasons he's getting desperate to shift & has to keep readvertising is that the clutch & flywheel change is imminent. Obviously there have been examples of 2.2s where they were still on the original clutch at over 160k, but a vehicle that's completed a relatively low mileage with some heavy towing at various points (suggested by the chunky towbar he has fitted) has probably had a lot more clutch use & is now likely slipping now & again (another reason to want it shifted quick as you don't want to be trying to sell when it's really ready to go).Doggy wrote:

Considering the parts for this would probably come to £6-700 & that people are still happy to pay in the region of £2k (or a bit over) for a tidy 2.2 that doesn't need attention I would give it a current value of about £13-1400.
