I love the bag-o-piss screenwash bladder-thing, wasn't there a noo-matic squidgy bulby thing on the floor to squirt the screen? I've asked this before I think?

Not that I remember :? The pump was on the wiper switch, which was a big round knob on the left* of the steering column - turn for wipers, push in to piddle water on the 'screen. Yes, there were tubes going to it around the steering column

*I think, it was a very, very long time ago (in a country far, far away...)

This, on the other hand IS a bag-o-piss, or pile of shite, call it what you will:

Image
STARTS FIRST TIME BUT OIL LIGHT STAYS ON AND FLICKERS ALSO WONT GO ABOVE 2ND GEAR FOR A FEW MINS TILL ITS WARM THEN OIL LIGHT GOES OFF AND IT DRIVES NORMALLY WITH NO OVERHEATING,GOT THIS CHECKED OUT BY MECHANIC HE SAYS THE SENSOR IS DIRTY AND NEEDS CHANGING AND ITS A BIT TAPPETY WHEN STUCK IN 2ND.
So it can't pump it's own oil to the head then?
MOT IS OUT ON FRIDAY
CORRODING TO BOTH SILLS,BOTH FRONT VELOCITY GAITERS NEED REPLACING,FRONT TYRES ARE BORDER LINE
SLIGHT FRONT EXHAUST LEAK AND A CORRODED FUEL PIPE
It's been looked after though right?
LOVELY PLUSH UPHOLSTERY
CAR HAS PART SERVICE HISTORY TILL NOV 2009 AT 72,000.
Oh, what's the mileage now you say?
111,000
So there's a sump full of treacle and the engine's borked

Relisted for 4,950 and then... withdrawn from sale :?

This is linked off of it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/hillman-aveng ... 1232982171

A GT! Umm, what happened to the other carb? :?
was intending to do the car as an avenger tiger replica as there isnt a lot of difference between them
Apart from the spoiler. And the stripes. And the Dunlop alloys. And the bigger valve head. And the twin Webber DCOEs (types 70 & 71) and the badge (I got one here somewhere, the only thing I have left  ) And it's the wrong colour (should be sundance yellow or wardance red for a mk2 Tiger). Oh, and get rid of the vinyl roof :frown:
drivers side rear arch and front valance but nothing major
Good luck finding panels, when production finished at Linwood they immediately broke up the presses so there never were any spares.

I forgot about the Tiger, I must have filed it with the Lotus Sunbeam memory :o

You seem to know a bit about the Tiger stevo, care to own up to owning one?

Truffle - are you saying they still make these? mind you they still make the Ambassador in India don't they?

I daresay the Avenger Tiger went like a scalded cat, (as opposed to its Sunbeam namesake that was pathetically slow for a 4.2 V8), but IIRC the average fuel consumption was about 16 mpg. Worse still, the usually better 'touring' figure was even lower!

I was in the Hunter equivalent with the Holbay engine, which was a bit of a beast and with those twin 40DCOE's sounded almost like my Lotus.

My mistake, It was the Hillman Hunter, made in Iran till 2005, called a Paykan.
At the end of production there was still a 2 year waiting list.

Correctaumundo. I seed one once, it had very strange tail lights. Here they were called Sunbeam 1250s for the earlier (Ryton-built) cars and Chrysler Avengers for the facelifted (Linwood) abortions which only came in 1300 flavour here, sadly. Actually, there's a derelict-ish Talbot garage just round the corner from my bro-in-law's with a gold Sunbeam 1250 parked out the front, it's under cover but covered in dirt and garbage and every time I drive past I feel a bit sorry for it, then I think about getting spares and decide that I'd be mad to touch it (I should take some pictures next time I'm there)
Doggy wrote:I daresay the Avenger Tiger went like a scalded cat,
Not especially, only 98bhp for a mk1 and 100 and something for a 2, but they'd piddle over something like an RS because they were lighter. They made rally ones as well with fibreglass panels and a 16 valve head...
Doggy wrote:(as opposed to its Sunbeam namesake that was pathetically slow for a 4.2 V8)
I saw one on the road here last year, it was with 2 MGBs (yawn) and an MGC, all with with Austrian plates, I think they'd missed the turn off for the car show in Karlovac. Who cares what it goes like if it sounds like that?
Welly wrote:You seem to know a bit about the Tiger stevo, care to own up to owning one?
I've already owned up to owning 3 (3 times!) viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4964&p=48698&hilit=+tiger#p48698 Not that I got much use out of 2 of them :frown: My memory is just as rusty as my Avengers these days though...

That's the first time I've been that close to it, all the times I've driven past and wondered if all that dust and muck hides something interesting but now I know - it's as rotten as a peach. Ah well :|

part of the appeal this has for me is that for something that looks like a minicab, but with 200bhp and the manual gearbox, it can go pretty quickly. Yet not a V6 badge in sight
looks good in the photos, and from 10 yards
