Drunk drivers
i was coming home from work at 2am (suppose the best time to get stuck behind a drunk driver) and a car just pulled out into the middle of the road, then did a load of tyre smoke and up the town bouncing over kerbs and traffic islands. I was behind it as it drove up the road nearly hit a lorry and couldnt hardly stay in a straight line, then it took a corner too sharp and hit a pole.
One night (say 2am) a was in my BT van waiting behind a drunk driver at a traffic light. The light turned green and... he drove straight into it, knocking it down.
It's a way of life here, one of the first things I did here was help push some guy's Yugo out of a ditch. When it was out he was trying to get back into it but we didn't think it was such a good idea seeing as how he couldn't even stand up. They dropped the blood alcohol limit here down to 0.0 (which is of course impossible - even orange juice has trace amounts of alcohol in it) but that hasn't slowed them down at all.
Theyre talking about reducing the drink drive limit in NI.
Makes sense from a road safety point of view, but as you point out, fruit juice that has fermented slightly, mouthwashes, alcohol in food, and the inevitable "morning after"s mean that it is difficult to have a zero tolerance approach.
Always thought the USA had an interesting test, if you can walk in a straight line while touching your nose etc. you're sober to drive!
