but they all end up as one thing: (Garden ornament.)
too expensive to run/maintain parts etc.
at one stage people was almost giving the older Jags away. 'ive seen plenty turn up on ebay..mint looking things > listed as 'Ideal car for banger racing'.
I was looking into a few the other day, oddly enough the insurance quotes for a 3.2 v8 were coming out at only £100 more than what i pay for the 406, the tax was £280, and a few sell already converted to LPG.
I suppose they give plenty of trouble but then so would a big old merc or bmw its all part of the fun of them.
Big cars like the jag's are more for the cigar smoker (retired person)
id guess,.
imagine running abig lump like that round town? that seriously take some coin to keep going for the fuel,.
ilike them but iwouidnt to be able to afford to run one, an old one for the 'classic car insurance is tempting mind.
ive heard you can insure them for peanuts on classic insurance and pin another vehicle to the policy not sure if thats true.
I remember 405's like them when new. I drove the first of the 1.9 TD's in 1991 and was amazed at the torque and how quiet it was. Pulled like a train from just over 1500 to 4000, but did feel a shade heavy at the front. Also had a reasonable blast in an MI16, (complete with 'spare ski' as we christened the boot spoiler at the time). It was great fun. Round that time I did lots of miles in a pre-cat '91 1.9 GR saloon, (c/w spare ski), which was a very nice all round performer for a lot less wonga.
I could see young Welton in an MI16, or even a Le Mans......
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I owned a 1990 G 1.9 GR (carb'd) and it was a mighty machine, loadsa torque, instant throttle, no CAT, and the handling was pin-sharp. Mine was the 'revised' model with 'cooling' which'd run the fans up front after you parked up (and some other revisions) as the early E/F reg models would allow the petrol to evaporate from the carbs when parked somehow and be a bugger to start.
Carry on...

Crap, I can't get that 405 out my head, I've got the money, it's about 90 minutes away and has my name all over it. It's a pathetic mid-life crisis car but I loved my 405.....unless I'm thinking back with rose-tinted memories
Might mention it to her indoors tonight.....that'll put a stop to the purchase for sure.
