BMW's never break down so something's not right there.

I'm guessing the ash tray was full so he's sent the car to be scrapped and ordered a new one; would explain the mobile call etc.

Could be a time-saving exercise - somebody will probably give way and let the recovery truck merge into the traffic.

Yesterday yoyoII had it's 110,000km service (at 110,100km, so shoot me :P ).

I've just been writing it up in my service record thing - not that anyone would care but I hate forgetting what I had done when. Also I can't find any proper service schedule for it so I'm having to work it out from it's service history.

26/01/2017 110.000km
Engine oil 5l Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30
Engine filter Fram PH4967 (old Bluepoint ADT32112 Filtron OP621 DID NOT FIT)
Transmission 3l Mobil 320 ATF (Mobile 1 nls in HR)
Air filter Filtron AP142/10
Cabin filter Filtron something or the other
brake fluid 1l dot4
antifreeze 7l K12 Plus

Parts from Goran, service by Mika. Total about 250 oust-brexit vote quids. The only issue was the oil filter, the Bluespot from the last service screwed on 2 1/2 turns but the Filtron only one and Mika wasn't happy with it (it might come undone on the road! Oh no, I hate having to laugh that much!) so Mka popped out to find a better one, which was the Fram which screwed on much more securely.

Unfortunately this all went on rather longer than expected and, with one thing and another, I spent the whole day freezing and II didn't get anything to eat until 6, when I managed to cram an entire Lidl lasagne down my neck (Mmmm, 1Kg of tasty badness) and spent the rest of the evening feeling quite ill as a consequence

It was quite a nice day otherwise, it's always nice to see Mika and Krešo in the workshop there as they always seem to spend their whole day having a laugh at one thing or another.

Just out of interest, while Mika was playing with the yoyo I was watching Krešo replace the brake lines on an old Škoda Fellatio using steel - the copper-nickle stuff is now banned in Croatia - is this an EU thing or are they still using it in the UK?

Sounds like a nice day (barring the food bit).

Apparently car 'servicing' is starting to fall on deaf ears with a lot of owners; thinking that after getting rid of their 'sh*t old car' they opt for a brand-new car thinking it won't need servicing (cos it's new innit)

Just last weekend I was talking to my Step Niece (is that even a thing) who recently bought a 2011 Alfa Romeo 'thing' (she showed me a pic of the front grille  ) anyhoo very shortly after buying it (privately) it started making 'funny noises'.......basically since 2011 it has NEVER been serviced and spent its life on door to door work.

The £1,100.00 repair bill was apparently 'just one of those things with cars' this was for a recon head as the original was full of baked oil. Thing is what about bore wear and the crank bearings?

So all this record-keeping is a MUST if you want decent evidence to secure the right price at resale time.

Unless the person buying it thinks it doesn't need servicing...

Goran was telling me about how a lot of modern car owners baulk at the servicing costs. He reckons the oil for a Merc costs as much for 1 litre of the stuff as all my stuff put together. "Haven't you got anything cheaper?" They ask, so he offers them some rubbish from Outer Mongolia, "Will this be ok?" "Maybe, maybe not." He reckons buying cars is going to turn into a minefield.

He was also telling me about a chap came in with a 2010 Glof 6 needing some part for its engine (forgot to ask what), which Goran had to order from the dealer ($$$). Part turns up, it doesn't fit. So he gets back to VW who ask for the engine number. It has the wrong engine in it. Seems the guy bought it cheap as an import from Germany, presumably it came in with a dead engine, new one fitted from god knows what and punted out cheap. So the moral is, if something's cheap there's probably a reason.

Buying a recent-ish used car is a minefield already.

Daughter_Welly: Ooh Dad I like the look of those [insert random eurobox name] what do you think?

Welly: Read up, read up, reviews, model types, options when new, affect of options, read some more, look at insurance, affect of options on insurance..........Answer = not suitable.

I remember when cars were easy; they started at 'L' the 'GL' etc and we all knew where we stood it would be impossible to surmise what a car may or may not be equipped with these days.

I agree, and they all look the same. In the '50s you could instantly recognise the make and model of car, I've go no idea with the modern ones, I often don't even recognise the badges.

I'm afraid I couldn't cope with a new car, they are so complicated I don't understand them and if I can't repair them myself I can't afford to run one, I'm hoping the 406s will last as long as I do.

I'm having a Cat (from Red Dwarf) moment here - "Hey, I do not DO the W word" 8)

YoyoII registered today. Woo. Emissions all very much within the limits (then why were they revving it for so long?)

Insurance (3rd party only - fully comp would add another 10 grand or so) - 2,387.67Kn
Inspection (think MOT plus any other crap they care to dream up & charge for) - 1,291.80
Tax (nothing to do with the road of course) - 451.50Kn
= 4,130.97Kn
= £479.40 Ta very much :frown:

I spotted this scene in the kitchen yesterday. The rest of the time you'd think they weren't related...

Well cats innit? Brother and sister from the same kindle but with different dads. I have seen twins floating about here for both of them, the grey is darker than Camilla but the grey/white is identical to Charles. Turns out they strayed from an old dear on the corner down the road who had a garden full of them

My car's external temp gauge read 47 degrees on the way home from work on Friday.

The FILs car (in another state) cracked 53.

Heatwaves suck :(
