Ive read that thread in the past its good to see the car has had a documented past, there are a few threads that the previous owner has discussed the 305 on, I've actually had a bit of dialogue with him over on club peugeot uk, he has bought himself another 305 this time a diesel van.

Regarding the french van on leboncoin, I've seen a few of the french market 305s have a different type of bootlid to what was normally there, two creases and the number plate is the only difference but i think it makes the bootlid look out of place. It is amazing how well the cars last over in france much less rust issues than we have here.

Today was a good day, i sent the back axle, subframe and other suspension bits away to get zinc plated after i had them sandblasted, but i recall seeing a field full of 305s back when towing the 106 home in march, its about 20 miles from home but since i was almost there when at the zinc plating place i ventured on up the road, and arrived at the place where there was indeed a field full of 305 vans, estates and saloons, unfortunately there was no one there, but i went to a neighbour and got the mans phone number, and rang him, 10 minutes later he arrived and i had a good look at the 305s.

He works on them, and drives a van himself, and has a very good knowledge of their rust spots and how to fix any of their problems, and the cars in the field are for spares, so i now know where to go to get a few bits, i left with a brand new wing for £70, which was very good value considering the peugeot parts specialist is £120 and thats before vat and delivery are added.

Here are a few pics of the sandblasted parts before sending them to get zinc plated:

The brand new replacement passenger side wing:

This is what i have for the drivers side, the old wing is rotten towards the bottom and the wing i got off eBay is actually for a series 1, but the man with the 305s has plenty of old wings, most have bits of rust here and there but it should be possible to cut bits apart to make up one good wing:

I remember when we got all the bits that were originally zinc plated on the Matchless redone, it all fitted in a cardboard box :supafrisk: How much will it all cost?

Btw youtube sent me your rear sussy dismantlling vid, it all looked (fairly) easy using the right tool, I can't help thinking that without it, it would be impossible.

Nice bit of progress Frank and a bit of luck getting the wing too, looking forward to seeing the suspension when it comes back.

They told me it would cost about £80 to have the parts plated, I gave my cousin £40 for the sandblasting, we get parts annodised at work all the time especially if the machines are compacting wet waste or bottles the anodised parts seem to last a good length of time, although i have heard its good to paint over the annodised parts once they are done, I'm wondering if instead of painting the parts a boring colour give them a few coats of lacquer so they stay shiny.

That tool made the job much easier, my cousin said he removed a 305s shock in the past but compressed the spring with sash clamps, which wouldnt have been the safest thing to do.

It's basically galvanising so you'd need special primer to get any paint to stick to it, I've never had much luck with it meself. Probably best to leave it, it'll last years.

Its a tad expensive, but the owner obviously has put a bit of effort into the engine swap and done a few mods on it to make it look like something the army uses. Them seats would have to go, there is nothing wrong with the original items, they do wear on the side bolster but they are very comfortable.
Not to mention there isnt much rust especially in the key areas like the tailgate, my yoke isnt too bad for rust but it needs work done which adds to the cost.

What are the odds that sam will buy it?

For what, target practice?

I just looked through the pictures and now I feel sea sick :( Seats look like the seats in my mate's Picasso.

Got a wire brush attachment for the angle grinder and set about getting the stone chip/underseal off the car, my cousin wont touch it unless i do this first otherwise he would just be wasting sand.

Here is one of the back doors before (still havent managed to get the rear 1/4 glass out, hopefully a window glazers suction tool will get a grip on the glass:
Image

The black paint was a bit suspicious it always looked like it was hiding something and sure enough some nice ferrous oxide was revealed:
Image
Image
Its just surface rust on the outer skins, thankfully no big holes, the back doors have a few holes:
Image

The tailgate rust isnt too bad its just a bit in the corners which hasnt spread too far out.

Thats the doors started, £6.50 was paid for the wire brush and its completley worn out, spitting wires about the place wasnt too nice, do they normally wear out so fast or have i just paid too much for a crap one.

Up close there are a few imprefections in the finish, and the rough finish is a result of the sandblasting done earlier:

It definatley should be done to any 406 backplates:

Nill! Not enough cylinders.

I actually fancy restoring one of these but with uprated suspension/brakes and a 2.2HDi. But I don't have the time, place or money to do it.
