Not a 2.1td with Bosch pump?

The plating looks fantastic Frank, I'm told I can get nuts and bolts done here but anything bigger - forget it :frown:

The place that does the plating does big stuff as well such as gates, the company im working for sends stuff off on a weekly basis to get plated, normally ram pins or any parts that will be exposed to moisture or (general yucky shite that a waste compactor deals with), its somewhere in the region of 30p a kg for the stuff to get done through the company so any nuts and bolts can be put in a lunchbox and sent off to get plated.

Nice update there and looking good!

Can you leave the parts in the silver now or are you going to add a coat of something else on top?

I think its best to give them something for an extra layer of protection, i wouldnt mind going over the seems of the subframe/back axle with zinc 182 or similar, and waxoyl the cavities of both then give them a few layers of lacquer. I really like the annodised finish and dont see any point in putting paint or powder coat over it which would ruin it, plus if everything is kept silver it should make it easier to spot any problems when under the car.

I started into the front inner wing area on the driver side, there is rust on both sides, Peugeot used a lot of underseal here, but with time its got brittle and let water in behind which caused the rust, its quite time consuming getting the underseal stuff off, a heat gun is used to soften it up, then its scraped loose with a screwdriver and stanley blade, once the bulk of it is loosened off the wire brush on the angle grinder can be used.
The stuff stinks like mad when heated up, and leaves the whole place very smokey:

The end result is its possible to see the extent of the rust:

Its a bit thicker inside the wheelarch and it takes a bit more time to remove:

The rear arch brought back to bare metal:

It's gett very close to that point there won't be much to do up top most of the underseal is indeed underneath and it is cracked in plenty of places, and it needs removed before the car can be sandblasted and im not too fussed in sitting underneath the car to do this.
A spit/rotissarie shouldnt be too hard to weld up from a few bits of scrap box section and a couple of old wheel hubs.

I got a pair of forklift extensions made at work, although I went for 12mm plate as that was the sort of offcuts they have lying about, they are strong enough to lift a house but very heavy to lift about without a forklift:

I spotted this the other night in my cousin adains yard:
Image
It just needs an adapter made up to pick up on the bumper mounts of the 305.

But he gave me the lend of something which gets rid of underseal much better than an electric heat gun, i dont know what this is called but it runs off a cylnder of gas and air from a compressor, it simply burns the underseal a quick swipe burns it brittle it either falls off or scrapes away with very little effort. Its a very good job at removing underseal although an unfortunate side effect is that it removes eyebrows and hair when lighting it up:

This is it lighting up:

the main flame:

No underseal left in the front wheelarch:

It has revealed one of them newspaper storage comparments in the sill:

The best bit, the two front valences have arrived, some strings were pulled and a lorry driver who knows a relative was able to stop off at a service station near dean hunters so they have arrived safely in one piece:

Won't you need 2 of them? I suspect the car might bend...

Fnar fnar. I used to use beer cans myself :supafrisk: Oh bugger :( What's the inner sill like? That'll test your fabrication skills

George carlin, a very funny man indeed :cheesy:

No there is another side to that rotisserie not in the photo, so the car would be supported on both sides.

The inner sill has also got some rust, all good fun, at least its a simple shape.

That's well bluddy handy! It'll save you much work making one too!

You'll just have to grind off the bad stuff and see what you're left with. I'm thinking of all the crap like that I've had to deal with in the past, it'll make it so much easier to turn the car over and look down on what you're doing, nice :cheesy:

I still wouldnt mind building one myself, if i get the lend of this one i can measure it up and put it into solidworks to make some time in the future, i bought 50x50 box through work during the week and was shown how to use the band saw, i had an idea for a work bench to put in the mushroom house, after a bit of welding it seems to sit flat on the floor, just needs a top surface:

I was working on something a bit different today:
Image

A 2002 Range Rover 2.5 Diesel, its not the best example of a P38 if im honest, it was a stolen recovered bought off copart, i was asked just to install parking sensors and a parking camera to link up with the LCD display which has been added in, he got the screen second hand along with the sat nav system and tv box but look at the mass of wires they have:
Image

It doesnt seem like the hardest car in the world to work on, definatley handy getting under it with the ground clearance. I had a bit of a drive in it, it was an experience. These P38s are quite under rated, the older classic is a bit too old and the L322 is a bit too big/flashy and doesnt ride as smooth, this was extremley comfortable, huge big arm chairs, big arm rests, and a squidgey bit on the door panel where your elbow goes. I always thought it would be like driving a van but you still sit into this car but your up high and can see all around. The handling isnt as sure footed as a car but for a big off roader it copes ok, the ride height can be adjusted with a button on the dash, as far as the dash goes its definatley an old design with bits of old BMW, and honda era rover about the place. It doesnt feel particularly well built, and looking at the amount of error messages that the MFD flashes up it probably knows how to break down, but these old rangies are definatley a nice old boat.

Find an old door? One that isn't made out of cardboard... I've got a nice lump of pine here that would do :P

Goran made loads of stuff like that for his workshops (once I showed him how to mig weld), he made draws underneath them using angle iron for sliders
