The maximum cost of an MOT test for a car (up to 8 seater) is £54.85. A lot of places will charge less than that - shop around. There's a place near me that often has a Groupon discount going and will apparently charge a tenner for an MOT when you present a valid Groupon print-out.

You need to book a test at an approved test centre; can't just roll up to any old garage to get it done any old time. The lead time depends on the test centre; you might find some can do it on the day, but the busier garages might need a fair bit of notice.

Another 305 is really not what i need at the moment, better to get what i have into good shape rather than having a shed full of shite :cheesy:

Some more pics of the 305 after a week of under seal scraping from the floor, its slow and monotonous, the gas torch speeds it up a bit but the only scraper that works is the cold chisel, a flathead screwdriver gets used sometimes for the awkward places, and I've started giving the areas done a brush with the wire wheel on the angle grinder, yes a few extra holes have been discovered but it will be easier to sandblast now:

the wheel arches are a bit of a nuisance with the gas torch, their shape means the flame whooshes back round to where your standing

tool of the trade

the bottom half has been done (passenger side if it was on the ground), new hole discovered Image

another new hole discovered on the drivers side, this would be under the rear seat:

Passenger side sill, not to bad other than this patch at the back

You're certainly putting the hours in there  That's a surprising amount of rust in places you wouldn't really expect to see it, another couple of years and it'd be something out of Fred Flintstone...

Plenty of hours spent on the car, about 2 every day of the week, then most of saturday. Hopefully another week will get the other side done, then the inside of the floor needs stripped.

I think at this age rust can be expected anywhere, but if the underseal got broken by a stone then its probably let the rust in.

And yet you'd never know those little holes were there until it became a much bigger problem.....

The bare shell now looks more like a piece of modern art :D

I'm sure the appeal is that they were everywhere in the late 80's and much more capable than any other van on the road. They also have a kinda simple charm to them. To find a tidy one now is irresistible to some and I can understand why.

All of a sudden there is two, there was a scuffy but solid diesel one sold on ebay, it was only about 30 miles away from here, in the end it got £1550.

I liked looking at the turbo d one, at least i know the top mount intercooler will still fit, he mentions a HDi gearbox for better gearing, i have a spare HDi 90 gearbox, or is it the 110 box?

The blue one is absolutely mint, almost like it left the factory, the petrol engine in there, is that an old XR engine, both my petrol 305s have XU engines, the van must have stuck with the more old school tried and tested mechanicals of the time.

1.9s got a BE so it's probably a BE3 from an HDi 90.

Another 305 delivered today, i bought the GTX, absolutley no need to do so but its a GTX :cheesy: , this is as near as the 305 would have got to an executive; luxury touches included velour seating, central locking, digital casette player, power steering, and the piece de resistance front electric windows, all standard today but these seem more special in a car like this, it arrived on the back of a lorry trailer, the man normally exports the machines we build at work down to southampton and brings back cars for people on the return journey:
Image

Both the battery and the front tyres were flat, the battery doesnt last even after a jump start, but it drove around the yard for a few minuites:
Image
there are spots of rust, finding a RHD 305 without some rust is almost impossibe, but amazingly both sills are solid and havent been patched up:
Image
Image
A sunroof again, but this one is a good quality britax one:
Image
Image
Velour luxury, and speakers for the dogs in the back:
Image
Image
the central locking plip, looks a bit like a lighter:
Image
a 205 gti engine without fuel injection:
Image

It has been used for transporting dogs and smells of dog at the moment:
Image
Image

The pair, got the kickdown working on the automatic, the cable hadnt been connected to the carburetor i assumed that it was just a slow old car and to take it easy but its supriningly nippy, on kickdown it will drop down into a lower gear and rev up to 5,000 rpm before changing up.
Image

The S5 project is still ongoing, but the delay is waiting for parts, ive ordered sills from a company and cant recommend them in the slightest, the front slam panel is on its way from belgium and the rear quarter panel exists but is in italy.

You little beauty! that GTX is ace :cheesy: looks like a new Carb on it?

There's no better place to be than a 1980's Velour Peugeot interior :D

Look forward to more progress, you've probably got enough stuff there for a few years :o

To be fair if you finish up with a nice fleet of 305's it'll be worth a few quid I think.

:D Should clean up nicely.

Used to have a plip like that on our 505, only ours was held together by electrical tape and only worked once a month or so.
