Bailsey, you do a lot of miles, is the valeting you do your actual full time work? if so are you self employed? if so you might be able to get business insurance cheaper.

The commercial business insurance policies kinda understand that you're less likely to be hooning around on a supermarket carpark and more likely to be working and needing to get to one's customers in one piece. You might be surprised.

My Volvo is insured fully comp, for anyone to drive, proper business use, for anyone over 25 and it's about £900.00 a year. I don't even know what group it is but it must be quite high.

It's only f*cking gone and happened again!

I was on the way back home from work tonight in nose-to-tail traffic, and the lady in the car behind me nudged my rear bumper. She DID stop, but as I couldn't see anything wrong with my car, I told her not to worry about it. Fair enough, no damage done (just had to pop the bumper trim back into place with a shove of my foot).

I wonder what will happen to my car tomorrow - the last two times I've had her away from the house, she's been in an accident!

Bus / Train / Taxi! :cheesy:

Have to watch with rear end collisions, the likes of my old Clio didn't look too bad, but the boot wouldn't open, below the bumper was crumpled in, and it ended up writing the car off!

This stuff always happens when your ready to move a car on....

My Fiesta Diesel got broken into and the stereo nabbed a few days before it was getting part ex'd in. My Saxo VTS got smacked up the arse in stop start traffic just before that was getting part ex'd in and when my Ibiza Cupra was on Autotrader for sale and some scrote kicked a wing mirror off

Wrap it up in cotton wool if i were you.

Rear end collision?

Thought about claiming whiplash injury?

What? why not! everyone else does and you'd probably get £1,200.00 or something :|

I like to think of myself as "not a jerk"

There was nothing wrong with me or the car, so I let her away. She came off worse at any rate.

I did  Well actually I sued the London Borough of Waltham Forest over the condition of the road that caused me to be off work for almost 2 years and it paid the deposit on my first house 8) I get what you mean by jerk though G, this "compensation culture" and people claiming for injuries that they don't have. It's lawyer-driven of course, persuading people that they could make a bit of cash so they can rake in the easy money, but at the end of the day it just drives up insurance costs for everyone.

I remember the story of the 40 seater single decker bus which was in a fairly minor collision in a part of Belfast.

The insurance got through 250 passengers with whiplash

I once looked at WeBuyAnyCar.com for a valuation for my car (back when it hadn't been hit by a van) and the web valuation said £750. I just did it again just now, being honest and specifying the damage, and the web valuation offered £70 for her :(

I'm so angry :x - White Van Man has basically written off any value I can expect to get for the car. Do you guys think I'd be better off claiming this one on my insurance? Or do you think someone might buy her? I'm totally gutted :(

Firstly ignore we(don't)buyanycar - what do they know?

Your car is basically a very good prospect no? so you either sell it as it is (I'd say it'd have to be £500.00 less that what it should be) or you get it fixed and hold out for the best price.

The insurers are likely to write it off but don't let that put you off cos you can buy it back for peanuts and fix it (if you can be bothered with all that) and without a third party to claim against you will probably lose your NCB.

What do you think it's worth in perfect condition? about £900.00?

I wouldn't take the valuation to heart, as far as they know the damage could be anything from a mark in the paint to the whole side of the car ripped off by a passing tyrannosaurus, so they quote accordingly.

I just heard a similar story but with a happier ending, in the big carpark at the main hostable for this area a guy crashed into my mate's brother-in-law's Alfa (totalling it, which is good going for this country) and one other car, then drove off. And then parked somewhere else in the same carparlk  Unfortunately someone called the cops, so he didn't get the beating he deserved.

Well yeah, I'd lose my No Claims Bonus if I did claim. That's another thing that pisses me off - Direct Line have a "Vandalism Promise" where if some arse keys your car they'll repair it and it won't affect your NCB - they also have an "Uninsured Drivers Promise" where if an uninsured driver hits you, they'll repair it and it won't affect your NCB - but they don't have a "The Bastard Legged It" promise.

£900 would be good if it was in perfect shape, so minus £500 for the repairs that's £400. I'd hope to get more than that from Direct Line if I did claim. But would I, and if so, do you think I should? I have to put her through her MOT this month, the insurance is up for renewal, and I'm now of the opinion that shifting my car won't be easy.

Coupled with the fact that I live in a rented flat and don't own my own property, I don't have space for parking a second car for very long, taking the insurance way out is starting to seem like it might be a good idea. Just looking for advice at the moment, I guess.

I reckon you ought to sell it as it is for £500.00 notes and be done with it. Much less painful all round, bit of a shame but the value's just not big enough to do much else and be any better off :|
