Very Irate John.
The thing is, it IS running out, all the current oil fields passed their peaks years back, which is why they're starting to make holes in Antarctica. Us being made to be careful with it by having to pay a fortune for it is still a mockery, considering the rate certain other countries are guzzling it away on the cheap.

Re: Fuel prices forces sale :(
I think public transport should definatley improve, if you live in london i dont see why there is a need to own a car, ive been in london and although i disliked it because it was too hot, to crowded and not the countryside i couldnt imagine it being a practical place to own or use a car. So make public transport more user friendly for those who want it, and who live in such areas where its the more practical option. And for any of us who enjoy driving drop the costs of car ownership a bit. Also if people use the online shopping service from supermarkets, it takes a lot of cars off the roads doing unnecessary trips to the shop.

Your once hourly Ulsterbus to your place of work / twice daily to the countryside isn't enough?FarmerPug wrote:I think public transport should definatley improve,

A bit like any city, probably not ideal day to day but for the weekends / evening trips / trips awayif you live in london i dont see why there is a need to own a car, ive been in london and although i disliked it because it was too hot, to crowded and not the countryside i couldnt imagine it being a practical place to own or use a car.
Bring back trams, the beeching cut train lines, and stop bus drivers driving like Schumacher on speed. So make public transport more user friendly for those who want it, and who live in such areas where its the more practical option.
It does fill the roads though with Mercedes Sprinter vans. Parked up on the road causing a blockage because there isn't easy parking access to every house. Having to sit in and wait on an allocated delivery slot, and then realise that the 12 bottles of Tiger beer you ordered were not in stock, so were replaced with 12 cans of Harp. And for any of us who enjoy driving drop the costs of car ownership a bit. I think it's part of the government's plan to make us use public transport, not by improving it but by making driving private cars so bluddy expensive people are forced to use public transport. Or walk.

Re: Fuel prices forces sale :(
Well, perhaps the government figure if people did start using public transport again then all the extra money they'd spend would be invested into that service, thereby improving it without them having to fork out any of our hard earned cash that they'd been saving up for, er, whatever it is that they do with all our hard earned cash.
Of course, this will not happen, the transport operators will be too busy stuffing it in their own pockets. Which you'd have though the government would know but perhaps they're ready for their cut.

Re: Fuel prices forces sale :(
Public transport will never ever replace private transport in anywhere but major cities, and as soon as there's more than one of you it usually becomes so bloody expensive that it's just not viable. Plus there's the problem that I work at customers' sites and not a regular place, need to carry a Lappy, projector, screen (sometimes), loads of training materials, books, portfolios etc, The site I'm in today takes me 11 mins by, to do that on public transport I'd have to walk half a mile to the bus stop, catch a bus into town, catch another bus or train for 8 miles, catch another bus or train for 5 miles, then walk a mile to the factory.... the trains run hourly and the busses half-hourly (no they're not timed for an easy change!) so that would take well over 2 hours each way, carrying all that stuff too, not happenning!
The cost of today's round trip is about £4 in petrol, more like £6 including all running costs (but excluting depreciation). The cost of the tickets would be more than that. Imagine if i had to take the wife and kids....
I never take the car to London though, that would be silly.
