your right there, my 406 still has a good pull up the hills compared to the weak petrols i had before. i just want a bit more power, i dont need it, i just want it.
we have 2 tractors quite the same that have the hill climb, ones an older possibly early 90s renault 106.54 turbo with a 30k gearbox, the newer one is a 2001 renault temis, with a 40k box.
the older one is slower on a flat road because of the slower box, but up the hill i can take the 106 up the big hill fully loaded in 4th high (top gear), the temis even when not loaded requires being slurring through the gears to get up the hill, its got a narrow power band, so its a case of going through 4 gears and the half gear.
The older one is also easier on the diesel.

Find someone that will re-map it mate,
you will find the turbo is there when you need it and it holds out,
mine was ok before but it didnt hold the boost it wouid fade out then you had to build speed back up
if theres a few of you in the car going up hill the 406 can run out of breath so re map is good if youve got a full car load
other than that ifound if theres only one or 2 on board it didnt blink at hills,

the thing is £500 seems very expensive for what is essentially putting a different operating file on a car.
would a £250 remap be good enough?

I did extensive testing in my old tubby and found having the AC on cost less than I could measure (around 0.05mpg)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Place up near Ballymena, TorqueTronix I think they're called, remap for about £250.
Saw it done on a VXR, but apparantly it will only run on super now.
With Shell (Optimax) gone, and Texaco dwindling (to be replaced with "Go!") I think only BP and Sainsburys sell super now.

would that sort of remap include a rolling road, do you need a rolling road for a proper remap?

I was up there truth be told with the driver of the Vectra VXR.

They have a machine that you drive in the middle of. A bit like those wheel washers in a drivethrough carwash.
They take your front alloys off run an extension from the machine and it has an end with multiple bolt holes, they bolt it to your wheelhub and run it on that. They had some issues as VXRs need extra long wheel bolts due to the ridiculously big brake discs. So they run the car, and the wheels drive the machine at either side.

They seem to know their stuff and know what they're talking about.

Just don't be offput by the location, it looks like a farmers barn :)

I'm not used to it. A true townie. After moving house I was surprised to see a herd of cows in the field at the end of our street

I do have a friend who grew up in a farm. He has no interest in it himself, but uses a lot of the outbuildings for storing and working on big Citroens.

i read this earlier, and then did the experiment on a dual carriageway heading towards newcastle.

at 70mph with no A/C i got 54mpg, with A/C i got 52mpg, on the same stretch of road, no incline or decline.

barely noticeable really
