Re: carburettor help

it doent look as oily as id like though, how much pressure does the oil be at in the rocker cover, generally speaking about petrol engines.
i tried getting the sump out but the last 2 bolts are a pain to get at, thanks to the shape of the mangled sump and the adaptor plate in the way.

re shelling it?
you know if it needs an engine i wouldnt be too dissapointed, the engine would be the easiest thing to do now. the trouble was adapting the jeep to suit it, thats done.

the carburettor arrived:

came nicely packaged, i opened it, there was a lovely smell of petrol, just what makes working on a petrol much better than a diesel.
Although im very worried about the engine, its obviously been starved of oil during them few minuites, if more goes in will it be cured.

When you changed the sump did you alter the pickup pipe /strainer ?

im having trouble getting the sump off due to access around the flywheel area and the adaptor plate, but it did go on, i was under the jeep yesterday undoing the other bolts, and whatever way i turned around i pulled my arm and my whole side is very sore, so i havent returned back under it today, but there isnt any point in doing it till i get another sump.

Daft idea #1,400,492: Pour more oil in until the engine shuts up? That is, if the problem is due to the strainer not actually being in the oil...

the moral of the story is, your engine needs oil.

Buggery sh1t   :( , thats not a good sign mate :( .

scrap that engine and grab another Vitara, now the SJ fits the engine perfectly it will be a quick enough job and you might even make on the scrap value again

Ah well back to the drawing board eh

i once watched sandy from the garage (marbella) change those shims on a 4x4 . due to the owner not putting any oil in the car for 2 years

luckily they just caught it in time and saved the engine.
