I think the RTE Player is available in N.Ireland, yes.

You get the channels themselves on Sky with an NI viewing card, which is how I get it. Channel 161 or so, RTE1,2 and TG4 (which has quite a lot of English language programming).

Virgin Media show RTE too but it's away channel 700-and something, amongst the specialist and French channels, the deepest darkest depths of the EPG that you would never think of treading on an idle channel surf. But then I would never have Virgin Media, their customer service is useless.

while on the topic of tvs, i gave my dad £100 towards the new tv and got the old one a samsung LE27S7BD (what a name) its a 27 inch tv with freeview and unlike my old tv when you supply it with power it presents a clear picture on the screen every time.
But i see a headphone socket at the back and it works (unlike the old tv) i was thinking of getting some philips cordless headphones because i used to have corded philips headphones for my ipod and they were very good. Is cordless ones a good job?

I had cordless Phillips headphones and they were useless.

Too prone to interference.

I'd say Bluetooth almost certainly, IR needs line of sight and FM is much more prone to interference, and is an analogue signal

and i bet with all this technology the old fashoned 3.5 mm cable still offers the best quality, alhtough its not practical to have a wire across the room.

is the fm interference a problem everywhere, how do they work are they like an ipod fm transmitter system do you pick a frequency?

They're in the loft now I think gathering dust.

If I remember correctly, they use the 2.4GHz spectrum, so interfere with wireless networks, and if you move you can hear interference. They really weren't great.

Mind you, these dated from around the year 2000, so I'm sure the tech has progressed in the last decade or so.

ah right, 10 years ago that makes sense, the reviews on amazon dont have many complaints about interference on these new ones.

My dad sent me to argos today to get him a USB hard drive so i got a Western Digital 500gb one, plugged it into the tv up popped a menu, the tv formatted the hard drive and now it can record the tv, this is so much simpler than my old toshiba vcr/dvd/hdd combi thing.
As for the earphones i took a risk and just went for the philips ones, ill see if they are any good when they come.

I got the headphones, they really have come on a long way in 10 years, i plugged them into my tv, and the power for the transmitter, the sound is very clear, even if i walk round the house, theres no interference issues they sound as good as wired headphones.
