I know what you mean, I'm currently on a 'payment break' where the Volvo is now paid for in full (albeit 7 years old getting tired in places) but not having to pay that £244.00/month is bloody great (if it wasn't for the £1,000.00 credit card debt hanging around) but I am having to think *very* carefully as to whether or not to do it again especially in these dodgy times :?

We're having the conversation about whether it's worth it, but I'm just thinking that I've had the same car for 10 years and if I'm careful to select the right next car there's no reason why I won't have that for 10 years too. Doing less than 10K a year on average and looking after it, it'll still be a very nice car in 10 years, in the same way as mine is still a very nice car at 10 years old (2 different strangers have commented on it in the last week! 8) ). But there are 2 problems, firstly it's a hell of a lot of money that I don't have right now (and even if I did have it I've got a list of other things to spend it on so priorities need to be set), and secondly..... I love my pug and don't want don't want to get of it  . Head says go for it, wallet and heart say NO!

I'm tempted to hang on for a couple more months then see what nearly new ones are around... (or is that just a tactic to delay making a decision :supafrisk: )

I think it's ok to get a new motor on finance if you can pull-in that money separately to cover it. If it's coming out of the family budget and you'd have to cut back on other stuff then it's hard.

If I could spend the same amount each month that we spend on food I'd be driving a new Porsche Turbo.

Bloody £1.35.9 a litre for unleaded out in the sticks.

From £27 I got 121 miles, works out just under 20 litres, about 4.4 galloons, means I'm hitting 27.7MPG on these longer runs. A new record.

Mmmm, my 'ridiculous' motor car may be sneaking back into the realms of being 'slightly appealing' :|

The new Skoda Rapid is going to start around £13k, the 3 cylinder petrol will do 55mpg, petrol is cheaper than diesel and has less servicing costs.
3 cylinder petrols highly stressed with a turbo are a bit of an unknown quantity though, but it does look appealing.

As far as I can tell the new EURO 6 regs will almost wipe out Diesel cars over night. I think this is why these tiny petrol's are being 'tested' [read: let the poor owner find out how reliable it may be] at the moment.

Same as IT then, proper Beta / Production / scenario testing outside of a test environment doesn't really occur until they're in owners hands.

Given Skodas track record I'd tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. Heck, even using the same engines and platforms as VW they manage to outperform them in JD Power and Warranty surveys!!

A little spooly petrol engine I'd imagine would be an almost Italian-style thrashy thing.
Even the VTEC doesn't have the train-like power of a good TurboDiesel but when it spools up at higher revs, my goodness!

Unless I'm missing something, it's up to the manufacturers to get new vehicles, (presumably only a sample), through the test.

We only need to worry about subsequently getting it through an MOT..... :supafrisk:

The MOT regs should be specific to year of manufacture?
