Nissan is more Renault these days, rather than the other way around.FarmerPug wrote:exactly but he just thinks if its japanese its immune from breaking down although hes starting to realise the primera is an exception.

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
the bluebird what a car, the old diesels were woefully slow and uneconomical but they were reliable old bricks.

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
Bluebird was Datsun at their best.
Way before the days they became obsessed with 4x4 SUV "crossover" efforts.

Blue birds where Rust buckets,
ive had 2 a 180b and a later mk2 Bluebird,
the 180b ihad the windscreen fell in as all the metal rusted away,
the nissans where the longest cars i ever kept, (very reliable)
had a Nissan Prairie owned it for 6 years igot 10 times more back for it than what ipaid for it when isold it,
it was 100% rust free strangely

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
theres 2 old bluebirds (rhubarb car is the nickname my grampas got) but it was sold and somehow an uncle (my grampas brother and one of a long list of uncles) ended up with it, got a mercedes and parked it and another in the back field they are sitting there for over 10 years now, the other one has no windows and its a full ecosystem on the inside now with wee trees and some flowers but not a pick of rust just some peeling lacquer. Compared to the maestro sitting opposite which is very rusty.

It's here again. It really is a noisy bugger. Maybe its just a bad one. Although a new Passat/Pasta/Passata/Whatever did make me glance up also.

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
Recent Pissants shouldn't be too clattery as they've had to abandon unit injectors and go common rail like the rest of der welt.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
I think the old 1.9 tdi engine sound has to be the worst sound ever to come from a car, its not the most clattery engine but i just hate that injector noise.
but ive noticed the vauxhall eco tec engine, my aunts zafira sounds very raw, like the big ends are loose very loud clatter under acceleration, i thought it was her car, but ive heard it on a lot of vectras and ashtrays jeez them things are loud.

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
Had a family holiday there in englandshire for a few days, but we rented out an insignia.
The door seals seem to do a very good job, very little wind noise gets in, and the engine noise doesnt actually seem to be noticeable, all the noise is road noise from the floor which does mean the radio is needed to drown it out. The ride is woeful i sat in the back for a while and it was hell, the seats are like sitting on rock you sit on them as opposed to sinking into them on the 406, and the rear armrest has 2 cupholders but theres no padding so its not really any good as an armrest, and the headroom in the back is limited, and its hard to get a good view out. Up front the seats are better with some front bit that moves to support your legs, but they are still too hard and the arm rest is too far away.
This one was the 2.0 diesel and it did 40mpg on motorway driving, the pug would do 50 on this sort of driving, to drive its better than the vectra the steering is wheighty but you dont really feel whats going on, the gearstick has a short throw, but some of the leather on the gearstick and steering wheel feels cheap, i dont think its leather.
But its still a reasonable car, seems to suit the motorway ok probably why it will be a repmobile, but its not really a nice soft cruiser like the peugoet.

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
They're sh*te to park too. When I was working in Welly for those few weeks one of the office girls came up & she had a 1.8 SRi. We took it round the ring road because she wanted to find out how to get the cruise control to work (bit fiddlier than any other I've used) & when I parked it back up at the hotel I could see bugger all out the back & whilst it looked like I was parked straight in the wing mirrors we got out & it was nearly at a 45 degree angle to the parking space!
Still, at least I didn't drive my hire car 100 miles up the motorway 1 gear below top.
"I wondered why it kept flashing that light at me all the way up..."

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
The trend seems to be for German-style overly-stiff suspension and uncomfortable seats.
Might be ok on a track-day car, but for a big saloon a bit of comfort is needed!
As for rear visibility, the shape of the thing seems to be arched at the back with a long C pillar, probably doesn't help!

Re: Vauxhall Consignia diesel
the rear view is terrible but with the p12 primera my dad is used to poor rear visibulity, althought the insignia is still worse, it would need a reversing camera.
There is a shift indicator, but even when drivng according to it ie economically it only did 40mpg.

I had that on the i30 Hyundai I had for my last week. Had great fun trying to get it to tell me to change 2-3 gears up!FarmerPug wrote:the rear view is terrible but with the p12 primera my dad is used to poor rear visibulity, althought the insignia is still worse, it would need a reversing camera.
