Sorry, but I'll believe it when I see it. Never heard of a Windows machine being in an usable state before 25 secs.

From power button to ready desktop? I insist I'll have to see that. From what I gather it's difficult to get it in under 30 seconds (bit-tech.net data)

That's called resume from hibernation / suspension and that's a completely differet story, I guess it could take less than 5 secs no problems.

Mea culpa, I do appear to have exagerated. I got the stop watch out just for you. Excluding the bios, all the way to the desktop with AV loaded and ready to rock, takes a shade over 12 seconds  That's what a decent SSD does for you, and I have to emphasise that this is not a high spec machine, it's a lowly budget Pavilion for general office duties.

That's much more likely, excluding POST. Sadly POST on many laptops is very slow, on mine it takes up to 4 seconds + a shade over 1 second for the bootloader. That's a lot when the whole boot takes 10-12 seconds (now went to 14-16 since I'm not compiling my own kernel anymore) from power to chromium! On my dad's Dell the POST is almost instant, much better than my Clevo.

There's something I've always hated in the way Windows boot: try clicking on an icon after the desktop loaded, a browser for example, does it load immediately? Nope, the desktop appears much earlier than when it's ready and apps take an age to load. On a Gnome or KDE machine most of the times the desktop is shown only when everything's ready.
Now this behaviour may not be annoying for those of us having an SSD since apps load much faster, but when I use someone's computer with Windows I always tend to swear for the first 2 minutes since I start everything immediately and the computer goes panic. :D

An ssd is a solid state drive, a normal hard drive is a mechanical thing with i think 6 disks spinning, the faster they spin (rated at rpm) the faster the computer loads up, and then because science happens in an ssd its memory is in what must be a large flash drive, so it doesnt need to spin so it loads up faster.

about the windows boot, when it shows the desktop that period is usually the most annoying, you can see icons but it doesnt respond, our school computers would take 5 minuites on a morning before they did anything, one day they actually did it for 40 minuites a class lasted 45 minuites, not a lot was achieved that day.
