...Only people who dont understand the cooling system or didnt change the coolant yearly and fill it with a 50/50 mix would say they were unreliable. My uncle had one 25 years and it only let him down twice - battery and alternator packed up.

That's funny seeing those old adds, thanks for taking the time to post them up!

I remember now, but had forgot about, the Vauxhall Royal - it was a kinda posh Carlton I think with a 3000cc? engine - I bet Doggy knows.

Those Talbots don't even have straight shut-lines from the Factory

The Toyota Crown Super or Crown Custom was very rare, an old chap round here has one in Estate form, Automatic with a straight-six engine I think.

Lol at the Lada having to pass a 'rigorous' 39-point inspection and coming with an unlimited mileage warranty....for 12 months!

The Austin Allegro there proudly boasting its 'expanded vinyl' seat coverings and a 'Radio' 8)

the talbots look like scrap even when new, but its not the only brochure where the cars defects are shown, i have a renault 14 brochure with rust on the sills.

The old 70's japanese cars actually look really nice, my reason for disliking japanese cars is things like the carina, corolla and micra with dull grey mass produced feeling interiors, these older ones were fantastic looking things, why did they go down the route of blandness.

Ill show the mercedes 450slc brochure some time later, but you get an idea just how advanced mercedes once was back in the 70's the quality of the cars superb, even the brochure is printed in extra special feeling paper.

I like the fact the Skoda brochure highlights the heated rear window on page 2.... so you can keep your hands warm when pushing it

Cracking brochures, thanks for sharing!

Was the old Skoda dealer round by Smithfield market then?

The Talbot range, the cars look 'unfinished' without a chrysler star / Talbot T in the grille.

Big Datsun Laurel looks great, shame Datsun/Nissan don't make saloon cars anymore. The 2011 equivalent brochure would be a Morono.

Big Toyota Crown, never seen one. They sell them in Japan as big taxis (like their Skoda Superb).

Must've been interesting, as the Japanese were getting started on importing to the UK, sending over their Japanese spec cars and seeing what sold. All ranges of interesting saloons and coupes.

My own Japanese coupe has a tan leather interior and bits of fake wood for the US market.

It was in a way. Pretty sure that the Royale was the Vauxhall version of the Opel Senator before they just called them all Senators & from back in the days when you could buy Vauxhalls AND Opels over here. 3.0 12v engine & I'm pretty sure they came with a 2.5 option too.

My dad had a Hyundai Stellar once because he didn't like his Ford Sierra compared to the old Cortinas

2.5 definitely, the 'big' engine at that time was a 2.8 IIRC. The Royale was a Vaux-badged Opel Senator & the Royale Coupe was a Vaux-badged Opel Monza.

The 3.0 appeared around 1980, I think, with 177 bhp / 160 lb/ft
The C30SE 24V of 1987 was 205 bhp/200 lb/ft and a whole different animal. (Imagine a Honda with torque).

ive actually got a whole load more brochures, the vauxhall one is a range one so there is cavaleers, carlton, chevettes etc but its dated 1979 if that helps. Here is more of the royale:

perhaps a new thread for old car brochures should be started, its amazing the stuff they list as equipment eg the chevettes exterior features lists; hazzard warning flashers, reverse lights, 'L' boot badge. As for the interior you have; reclining front seats, drivers door map pocket, passenger sun visor, coat hoots, heated rear window and 2 speed wiper. The people who marketed them cars

Upholstery options are a bit heavy on the beige for my liking Frank, (but maybe that's why they made such an impression on welly).

All the tartan kind of reminds me of old dears with tartan blankets over their knees. And what the heck is "Vynide"? Is this somewhere between vinyl and cyanide?
