Well, jasper5 knows better than me about the art of the possible.

The subframe wasn't actually removed. The bolts were removed at the gearbox side, and just slackened on the other side. There was enough room to wiggle the gearbox out. And remember the 4 hours is for a pro who knows his stuff, with all the right kit to hand, working hard!

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

About changing the clutch, Does the subframe have to be removed to change the clutch, and is a special tool required to remove the shaft for the clutch fork?

On the 90 the fork isn't removed as it's a conventional "push" type clutch, you just unclip the bearing from the fork and clip a new one in place (after cleaning and greasing the moving parts and the bearing slide.)

On the 110, the clutch is a "pull" type where the bearing is clipped into the pressure plate by pushing the bearing through the pressure plate until it clips in place....no special tool required, except something for pulling the clutch fork towards yourself to force the bearing clip through the pressure plate

Subframe just needs to be dropped down a few inches, but the gearbox mounting long bolt must be removed completely to give clearance.
