95 to be fair.

If Alberto does get a letter about this I'm sure common sense would prevail (raising the speed to overtake) I mean what else do you do? creep past at 50 mph for 1/4 mile  worst case I'd say would be a speed awareness doo-dad - that's if he here's anything at all......

I agree with GM on this... And I also agree with what Dai said..

IF anyone was caught speeding outside a school or in built up areas, damn right you deserve to have the book thrown at you.
I'd of thought that it would be safer to say get past it quickly (even if that means breaking the speed limit for the road TEMPORARILY) than to as GM says, spend half a mile or so doing 51mph trying to over take or something.......

Hope it's nothing Al

Magistrates Court....police....Common sense?? don't often see those words in the same sentence. :D
At the end of the day, Alberto was speeding. Fact.
He was tootling along at 40 behind the truck when he decided it wasn't fast enough. The difference between 40mph and 50 mph is approx 293 yards a minute! What was so pressing that those 300 yds/min needed to be regained....

I have 6 points due to 2xSP30's, so I am not immune. The difference is I knew I had done it so no point in looking for excuses.

My boyfriend was done for speeding a couple of months back - if the road had been busy he would of had an instant license revoke...

I don't think Alberto is looking for an excuse :?
As I read it he knows that he could have been caught speeding and is trying to judge how likely this is.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Idont get it,Alberto clearly states he may have got himself a speeding ticket on a -edit: dual carriageway :?
and thread becomes all judge judy,

if it was in a built up area where theres schools etc thatd be different,

idont care who it is, everyone breaks the speed limit,. (those with re mapped cars will morethan likely agree )

theres worse people out there to moan about, eg 100s of car owners that have had a few driving lessons and think theyre a brilliant driver and have no need for a licence,

Hang on, that puts a completely different complexion on it. I understood from Alberto's 1st post that it was a normal 2-lane "A" road (one lane in each direction), he'd crossed the centre line to overtake and got flashed by a camera on the right hand side of the road, that he was therefore driving towards? That's why I think he's OK, assuming it's a Gatso which was designed to work for cars driving away from it, he was driving towards it 'cos he was on the "wrong side of the road". That being the case it might register as -72mph, but I don't think it'd register anything at all.

I think you'd just have to take it on the chin if you get a fine mate, 'I was travelling 22mph over the limit to overtake' might just get you a bigger fine if you contest it.

The letter of the law is that you can only exceed the limit for the road if you have blue flashers on and a whirr whirr siren going, no exceptions. The limit is from sign to sign so no slowing down time and no accelerating time. A mate of mine got done 2 weeks ago going from a 40 to a 30, hit the brakes as he passed the sign and got flashed straight away, should have been at 30 or under as he passed the 30 sign.

There are a lot of myths about cameras some with more truth than others but basically (if working) they record your reg and speed (do they really use film in this day and age?) send the info to a computer which issues a penalty notice, computers don't have the ability to think some offences are more serious than others its all just '1' or '0'.

Some people may challenge and win, they get away with not paying the £100 fine by taking time off work to argue and costing them double the fine in lost earnings.

Don't get me wrong I have a heavy right foot but if I get caught I know the risk and I will pay the penalty, I didn't just buy a 2.2 because I liked colour.

When I hear people say cameras are just money making scams it pisses me off because if you don't break the law you will never have to pay, fuel costs, road tax and insurance on the other hand.....

The only reason I knew that was because I have on my desk a Notice of Intended Prosecution for one of our vans at work  the driver thought it was cool to speed-up in between the 'averaging' camera's on the M1 in Beds and got caught with 60mph in a 50. They don't like speeders through roadworks it's a big no-no so I don't know what his 'SP' code will be.

I'm filling the form out to say yes it's our Van but Mr_ _ _ was driving it.

I got an SP50 once on the Motorway doing 96mph in an Escrote Van :o in my defense it was an Escrote Turbo Diesel when they first came out in 2000 Image
