I must say my 406 even thou it's the Estate is pretty good in all area's, It has beaten 205's etc on a timed sprint circuit, but I have had 6 yr's race experance under my belt which makes the most differance, Just got back from the Ring and even thou I could only do 1/2 lap at full speed before everything go too hot not much could keep up with me on the twisties and that's on 170k std Damper's which have seen there best

Intresting comment on the 3 and 4 wheel handling, But there's nothing wrong with 3 wheel's going around a courner as the inside rear does nothing really and is a common site with any FWD car
Nurburgring in your V6????? 8)

Now thats something i would like to do in mine.

I need to disagree that 406 doesn't handle well, .... IF fitted with Eibach Suspension kit, a 225/35/19 front, 235/30/19. :cheesy: significantly increase grip, but really decrease the drive comfort :P

but honestly, 406 has a pretty good handling with standard suspension system. i drove 40km everyday to work, where i usually wake up late (work 9.00, wake up 8.00 :P ). i have to be at the office within 30 minutes by dogding trucks (ya'll say lorries ey ?!), cars and busses on the highway while people driving 60km/h - 80km/h, i drove 160km/h. i'm not proud about this, it's just a stupid behaviour i need to change (woke up late) that force me to do that, otherwise i'll lose my job.

in my opinion, after lotsa braking, cornering and steering hard the 406 .... considering the weight and dimension. it's a well balanced car, both for comfort and performance. even with standard settings. 8) other cars maybe better ... but the '6 is just well balanced.
Cars, Computers, Chicks, 3C for a complete life. add a number 6 between them then you get double pleasure. hahaha!

I've driven a 407 V6 SV and to be honest I wasn't that impressed in how it drove compared to the 406. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice steer but at the same time I didn't feel as though one could justify the 60k AUD price tag for it. Thats the same price as a Lexus IS250 - yes it might be RWD but remember Peugeot used to make the best FWD handling cars in the world not too long ago. Just remember the Mi16 and the 205 GTI!

As for the handling on the 406...

The press reckoned that it was the benchmark in its class when it was released. Even I have a CAR UK article back from '01 which states that the 406 D9 still has a fine chassis and good dynamics. However, what needs to be recognized here though is that the 406 is now 11 years old from the date it was released and is based on the Citroen Xantia platform which dates back to 1993!!! The game has moved along...the 406 is no longer king of its class, it still puts up a good fight but still I really dont see how it can beat alot of current cars out there when it comes to handling.

I'll go a long with that.
I'm sure the 406 did have fantastic handling for it's class 11 years ago.
But then cars used to use cable brakes and carburettors a long time ago and the world has moved on ;)
Not saying that 406s are THAT bad :P
Just that I'm not sure they are still the benchmark they once were.

Summed it up perfectly I think! :)

Still competitive, just not the top of its game!
