I've seen some of those on the roads. They look VERY nice from the rear. Don't like the front end though - too american
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Pardon me, but what's wrong with this? :?

I hate the estates to be honest (any estates), so naturally I'd go for the saloon version.

It's Japanese, I thought we weren't allowed to mention Jap motors on this here forum. In that case, the Mazda 6 is meant to be a good and ultra-reliable motor.

I love the extra versatility an estate gives, a tiny loss in performance is a small price to pay. Buying a saloon car makes as much sense to me as buying a jacket with no pockets in it, so what's your view point?

I am not a family man yet, so I really don't need the huge loading space. Saloon looks like a grown up, mature car so I don't want a little Fiesta either. But the estates say "I am married with kids and my life is over" :P But don't worry, in a few years time, I am sure I'll be jumping on the estate bandwagon.

I'm not married, I have no kids, I don't think my car says anything as such (although the voice of Dr. Ian Paisley screaming "move away from the veh'cle!!" wouldn't go amiss) . If you want a car for the single guy why aren't you driving a coupe?

Well... I should be really and I nearly bought one several times. But I was never impressed with diesels as they seemed slower than my 2.1TD (I know in reality they are just as quick if not quicker though) and they are quite expensive still. And with the distances I drive to work (40 miles each way now), diesel is the only option really :(

I don't know why people with kids think the need an estate :?

I have 2 kids and we've maaged perfectly well with small hatchbacks, coupes and saloons for years. When they are toddlers you carry a couple of (or a big) pushchair, a bag with nappies, clothes etc. and maybe a few toys and in the car you just need enough room for 2 child seats to put the little people in. My kids are now 12 and 9 years old and just bring themselves, no 'baggage' at all.

An estate is more useful for carrying loads if you live somewhere you need to do this, and for transporting dogs.

Here's a thought: How strange would a coupe look towing a trailer?

The 406 estates are MUCH better than the saloons. They may be 140Kg heavier, but it's all at the back so improves the weight balance. The rear visibility is FAR superior, they're easy to park and you don't have to worry about "will it fit in the boot?" ever. Unlike the saloon's tiny boot space I can't even get a bloody server-sized box in :(

Plus they look better

I'm happy with my D8 saloon, like Welly says you can happily load up two kids and all their clobber.
Just gets interesting at Christmas when we're staying with parents trying to fit the presents in!

I know I know! But I just hate Japanese cars. Souless and uninspiring things. Plus I don't like the back of that Accord estate. Obviously there are exceptions, I'd have a Jap 4X4 any day (a "proper" 4X4, not a soft roader), and some of the specialist sporty stuff is very impressive, but that's just the thing! Technically superb but completely lacking in character. Having said all that if I were to get a Jap mainstream car it'd have to be a Honda, so your suggestion is noted Cap'n. :?
