Re: Damn V6
The thing is I'd really not complain if a copper in a car caught me. I NEVER change how I'm driving when I see a copper - I happily drive past them as if they were anyone else whether they're doing their usual 10mph under the limit dither or if I'm doing 90 on a fairly clear motorway. They just don't have any problem with my driving because they exercise this strange concept called COMMON SENSE unlike those c*nts in the vans.
Somone I know got caught doing 120mph but the cop put it down as 99mph as they realized the motorway was empty, it was dry and not the sort of person to be racing about. The joys of owning a V6 eh?

Re: Damn V6
It's down to the coppers discretion. You could be doing 90mph but it's up to the officer to decide whether your a danger or not.
The amount of unmarked camera cars around is silly, and on motorway journeys I sit at a comfortable 90 mph if the conditions permit it. I've not been pulled over once.

Re: Damn V6
It seems that the 'flow' on the motorway is 90MPH anyway. It's only when you exceed 100MPH you get 'noticed'
This weekend on the motorway I travelled at 90 along with everyone else and my missus complained it was too fast so on the way home I experimented with 80 and dear god it was awfull
CONSTANT pulling in/out overtaking, slowing down, judgeing the speed of others FFS it was horible but i did it to prove a point (which I think she understood).
I think the simplest way of usng our motorways is to sit on the 90MPH train in the outside lane with all the others and let the lorries have the other lanes.

Either that or sit behind a lorry at 54mph...Welton wrote:I think the simplest way of usng our motorways is to sit on the 90MPH train in the outside lane with all the others and let the lorries have the other lanes.

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Damn V6
I hear the UK police are into pulling in a whole line of cars so there is no "keeping up with the traffic" excuse anymore. I suppose it just depends on how much the coppers want to boost their stats tho.
Yep, blasting along at 90 is great but I'd worry too much about getting done for speeding, all you need is one copper who didn't get any lately... Driving with the slow cars is a bit of an art but you get used to it.

Re: Damn V6
I've always felt comfortable overtaking marked police cars at indicated 90mph (82mph real) on the motorway - they're generally driven by humans with common sense. In fact I've actually overtaken one at speed only to see his lights come on and him pull over the guy behind me who although traveling slower was acting like a dick.
Unmarked cars I'll overtake albeit a lot more cautiously but it's the camera vans that I have nothing but contempt for.

Re: Damn V6
On the M1 at the moment just south of Luton they are widening the lanes and have a strict 50MPH limit enforced by averaging NPR cameras so no good 'speeding up' in between them etc.
Anyway - I saw 3 Diplomat cars in convoy all with the [### D ###] number plates indicating their diplomat/embassy status and all 3 of them merilly sped up through the cameras passing everyone at, say, 65MPH
Are these people exempt from fines when breaking the law? I don't suppose we will ever find out eh?
And wasn't there a story last week on Radio 2 where a driver photographed an unmarked camera van as he recognised the number plate from another area of town he had spotted previously - proving the police were still using unmarked vans to tott up speeders
