That's amazing - well done there Matt! Shows what a little dedication will achieve.

So it was just the spark plugs that were the culprit....

I actually doubt it was the plugs, just the vast amount of oil surrounding them acting as an insulator. When I pulled the coil pack up the top of the plugs were about an inch below the oil level

In other news I took the engine cover off last night and I may have slightly ended up with it in the kitchen sink being scrubbed with a bit of degreaser  I also might have accidentally bought 4 new rust-free screws to hold it on with   I may accidentally attack the raised gold "V6 24v" with a bit of toothpaste to get it shiny tonight...

Nice one Matt 8)
IMHO not the oil - my V6 Omega filled the plug wells on the R/H bank regularly because of a leaky cam box. Used to overflow, get on the exhaust manifold & smoke a bit, but never misfired
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Well it's running on and off now. Mostly on, but the 5th gear 30mph back breaking isn't at a complete end yet :(

It's also highlighted another major issue with the car - it needs a new clutch. Now I've got the power back it's far too easy to make it slip while driving. Can so it in 2nd gear and up. Red lining in 5th... at 50mph

i honestly don't think there's a cat in hell's chance of me being able to change the clutch on this, so it looks like I'm going to hope it lasts until I can find the £500 for the job

The stereo's fitted (ish, still need to jiggle bits around so it fits in the damn hole) but there's issues. First the cars door speakers don't work even with the original stereo, secondly there's a loud buzzing from the o/s/f tweeter and thirdly I'm getting a lot of interference from the engine, probably the alternator  I'm using a modified PC2-36-AMP adapter, I dunno what's causing his though, the oem stereo doesn't buzz or whistle. Might just replace the amp with a couple of crossovers

13. New washer jets needed. The N/S one is rusted up and barely able to hit the windscreen. I'm going to get a set of Citroen mist type ones on there.
Got my Citroen mist jets on. WOW!!!! :cheesy:

Tried shoving my 22" Valeo flat blade on the passenger side from the saloon (what, I wasn't going to get rid of it with £50 of wiper blades on it!) and while it does get hit by the drivers wiper since the coupe uses 26"/22", it just bends out the way which is fine.

Unfortunately the hinge on the passenger arm has corroded and is FAR too stiff to support flat blades. More expense... Got to do something soon because the rain sensor isn't being cleaned

you know, when 1st bought my 406 i thought intermittent setting was broken, then one rainy day i worked out that the came on and sped up etc automatically, so its been left in intermittent ever since.

which gave me a problem.

last week in amongst fixing my own car my sisters bought a new car that needed some odds and ends, so i got it to run around in for a few days while i did the work for her, during which time it rained.

well i was checking fuses, pulling plugs, everything trying to find out why the wipers didn't come on.

the reason? - i hadn't turned them on, i've got to used to em doing it themselves, lol.
1997 2.1TD executive estate - mmmm, lovely :)

odd. the 406 auto wipers should disengage when the ignition's turned off, so if you leave it in the 'auto' position, you should need to turn it off and on again for it to work. The rationale behind this is so it doesn't knacker the wiper motor when you get in the car and the windscreen's under 6" of snow/ice

Couple of pictures from yesterday...

Spark plug wells AFTER I'd emptied half of the oil  The plugs are actually about 10-15mm beneath the oil level in this picture

I've been told on the coupe club forum that it's likely to be because the "rocker cover" seal has spring a leak. Unfortunately the forum's down. again.

Does anyone happen to know which cover (top or bottom on the pictures) it's likely to be, and what I should use to re-seal it/them? and where to get the sealing stuff from?

I've got a load more random pics of some of the work I've been doing, I'll turn 'em into howtos when I have time

Dusts off crystal ball I reckon you're better off asking on the coupe club, they might be able to tell you which is more likely to go. I can't really tell what's going on looking at your pics, strikes me it could be the cam covers, the cam carriers themselves (eek!) and what about the spark plug tubes? Are they meant to form any sort of seal? You could try cleaning it up and seeing if you can spot where new oil's coming from I suppose.

As for sealant, I presume it's the same stuff they use on the smaller engines ("Peugeot Silicone Catagorie 2") but, seeing as how this works so well, perhaps you could see what others have used on the CC. Then our resident intelligencia will no doubt have some useful suggestions. I could also tell you what I have but it's German :?
