Shouldn't traction motors give better torque delivery?

What about having a diesel-electric set-up like a railway locomotive with no mechanical (or fluid) transmission?

There's a 508 that seems to commute in the opposite direction to me. It's gold and it looks awful.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

the locomotive thingy, i believe the vauxhall ampera follows that technique except it uses a petrol engine, but i wouldnt like that i want the engine to be connected to the wheels.

The Insignia is trying to be a BMW and failing. Vauxhalls traditionally dont handle, rust, dodgy electrics, unreliable diesel engines and dull interiors. That said the Astra G I drove handled superbly - probably down to its Lorus underpinngings the only exception to the Vauxhall rule.

I cant see a point in buying a Vauxhall when Ford have them beaten on everything. The Zafira GSi was cool though.
