Me old man has a Navara works van, and the engine blew on him. Apparantly a common fault with mid-2000s Navaras, yet Nissan wont acknowledge a fault.
Nissan DID acknowledge the fault on the Navara, they came out and said that the white metal bearings on the crank had been made incorrectly causing bearing failure (big ends and mains).

They changed loads of engines FOC, including 2 for customers of mine.

When I took one for a new engine they had 8 in their compound all waiting for new engines....all done for free.....the only thing they wanted was a full service history, but i'm sure they did some without.

Regarding the later Primera....there is very little Renault stuff in them, except the diesels, even then one of the diesel engines fitted is not a Renault unit (2.2).

They're not bad cars actually, although be careful with the diesels, they have HDi-esque particulate filter problems. Guy from work has had to take his to Nissan as it's got stuck in limp mode because he doesnt do enough out of town driving in it!

All diesels with the particulate filters suffer the same problems, anyone considering buying a modern diesel and only doing short distances and low mileage would be wise not to buy one (whatever the make).

Indeed, after the initial higher purchase price and higher servicing costs even if you factor in the fuel savings over a Petrol engine you'd still be out of pocket come DPF replacement time. Petrols are blissfully simple in comparison these days.

they seem like a nice idea you get the raised driving position but otherwise its a normal car.
we have been looking for the tekna model its the one with a big panaramic windscreen and leather.
Cool,
iwouidnt put the lpg on a quashQuai mate,
it wouid involve having the Valves up rated ithink,
My mate as a Modern honda running on Gas, you shouid see how many sets of Spark plugs that thing goes through a month, it burns the core straight out of them,
if it can do that to plugs think of what it can do to valves,
Many a company are fitting these lpg kits but id like to see How many get Uprated valves, :?
the LPG fitting place charges £1000 for their work which must include something that takes that into account, they fit special spark plugs. My dads primera has went for 4 years without a problem with the engine, just needs the oil changed now and then but thats it.
LPG on a squackquack would be great, they do 40mpg on petrol on LPG its half the price, so 80mpg :cheesy:

Not so sure on that - have you taken in the saga on the coupe forum where they're trying to modify the v6's engine management so it won't throw a wobbly over prematurely aged upstream and/or downstream lambda probes which aint cheap. Or coil packs. The other thing you tend to forget is how fussy some petrols can be. At the bottom end of the market, cheapie engine management setups tend to give you a collection of flat spots, linked together by erratic spurts of acceleration. No, thanks.

Besides, I fear no DPF. :cheesy:

I understand Doggy, her indoors Ashtray Petrol feels somewhat strangled in the fuelling/timing department. The Volvo is super-smooth and free of glitches but then I must pay handsomely for that in terms of petrol being squirted in by the bucket load. Petrol miss-fires are the result of strangled fuelling mostly whereas mine seems to bathe in the stuff, even toss it over into the exhaust when its had too much to drink.

I'm really busy Doggy, really busy getting nowhere fast. I've tried to pop in when I can but it's hard to keep up.

I had the window open the other day blasting along the coast roads as you do, dropped a cog, put my foot down to overtake. Made my move and pulled back in. Dropped the car back in 6th and got a lovely pop from the old exhaust :D
