Re: Project HaeThere! (Coupé restoration)
Is it possible that some plonker just spilled a load of oil when filling it?

Re: Project HaeThere! (Coupé restoration)
That's always possible, another vote for clearing it all out & seeing where it's coming from then
Thinking about it, this might be why the oil on my D9's gearbox never came back after I cleaned it off

Re: Project HaeThere! (Coupé restoration)
The weather forecast looks bad for this weekend so I can't risk doing any work
On the upside, it's given me the extra time i need to grab some syringes off ebay, which should speed up draining the oil. They'll also come in handy next time I need to change brake fluid
It also gives me time to try to figure out how to get access to the amp and potentially remove it

Re: Project HaeThere! (Coupé restoration)
I reckon it was someone being clumsy filling the oil as well, the filler is pretty close to that bank.

The problem is usually an O-ring seal around the plug aperture as this is below the oiling-level going on inside of the head/valve train.
You whip off the rocker cover (sounds great doesn't it?) note you also need to get the main rectangular shaped rocker gasket and then you get access to the spark plug gaskets - normally round or maybe square shaped on yours. The heat makes them perish over time and oil fills the wells.
Some "bodgers" leave rags down there and do a weekly rag-change (eww).

According to servicebox, there's no gaskets or seals between the inlet splitter and the head gasket...Welton wrote:You whip off the rocker cover (sounds great doesn't it?) note you also need to get the main rectangular shaped rocker gasket and then you get access to the spark plug gaskets - normally round or maybe square shaped on yours. I was just kinda recalling what you would normally need, but as we know, nothing's ever 'normal' around here

I dunno, it's normal for the handbrake to be useless, D8 blower fans to burn, saloons to turn their spare wheel well into a swimming pool, ashtray bulbs to blow regularly...Welton wrote:I was just kinda recalling what you would normally need, but as we know, nothing's ever 'normal' around here
(ooh that last one reminds me of something i need to add to project haethere

EDIT: d'oh! it's already there

and the cigarette lighter bulb, its such a horrible job to change it too. You have to take the whole console off right?mjb wrote:ashtray bulbs to blow regularly

Re: Project HaeThere! (Coupé restoration)
Nah just the ashtray section and/or the gearstick gaiter. It's been a while since I've done it. Very easy job though

10. Back seats. Won't lock in the upright position
Just need slamming. VERY HARD
19. Rear glass needs cleaning on the inside. Not looking forward to that!
OUCH!
Don't know how much I've missed, but I've massively improved things. God it's painful on the coupe!
Has anyone got any suggestions for how to reach the bottom end? I don't fancy the idea of poking kitchen roll around with a big screwdriver...
13. Power steering seems very "strange". Suspect a dodgy pump
The steering's MUCH lighter and less "strange" when I hold the revs at 2000rpm when turning the wheel while the car's stationary. Am I right thinking the pump's knackered?
1. The clutch needs replacing
It slipped today while accelerating at high throttle in 3rd, NOT after a gear change, and nowhere near peak torque
sh*t I really need a new clutch. Quickly. Just can't afford it though
£525 from a trustworthy garage
Has someone got a garage, an interest in helping change a V6 clutch over a weekend, a taste for some beer, and some crashing space for a Saturday night?
