406 Owners - how old are you?

Re: 406 Owners - how old are you?
The colour is called Palomino Bronze, and was only offered in the very early cars.
Advice - Get rid of that dodgy air filter, drive through a big puddle and it will kill the car. Secondly, sign up to www.aussiefrogs.com - David Cavanagh of French Connection in Melbourne is wrecking a few 406's, but other than that they are hard to come across.
Are they ROH wheels (Aussie brand for those who don't know - They look very similar to Adrenalines)....

Got Taxi 3 to watch tonight - got for me birthday today - yes i'm an old git - 41

Had mine 3.5 years - got it off a mate who had it and added the 17inch alloys and had it remapped to 140bhp (110HDi)
I love it for being very comfortable. Love being able to drive long distances and get it out feeling like you've been nowhere, which is great when you drive all week for a living - last thing you want is to feel tired - hence why i've refrained from lowering the car
1999 D8.5 HDi GLX - Sold

Re: 406 Owners - how old are you?
10 minutes in a new Astra (about 6 years ago) had me in sheer agony. A couple of hours in it had me off work for a fortnight with a seriously bad back. 45 minutes in a new (last year) Audi A4 had me in severe pain.kevtherev wrote:seems nice hoping its as good on the long trips as others are sayin gotta blast down to the south coast in a couple of weeks ( 200 mls)

30 hours straight behind the wheel of a 406... fine

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

30 hours straight behind the wheel of a 406... fine(that was driving from Stoke to the north of Germany then a 15 hour traffic jam on the autobahn)
I did a 7 hour straight blast from the ferry at Amsterdam to northen Germany in my old saloon. No stops, just straight through. When I parked up at my destination, I was still relaxed and comfortable. The 406 is a brilliant mile muncher for sure.
Recently got stuck for 4 hours in my coupe due to snow. Got out still fresh with no aches and pains. The Coupe is just as comfortable as the saloon and estate.

Re: 406 Owners - how old are you?
No it ain't, not by a long way. It's still vastly more comfortable than almost anything else on the road thoughBlue406 wrote:The Coupe is just as comfortable as the saloon and estate.
I thought my coupe felt just a bit harsher than the saloon+estate before it, but driving my dad's saloon the other week made me realise it's a lot harsher.

Re: 406 Owners - how old are you?
Im 25. Had 3 406's since September 2007. Not a good sign. All D9's. All 2000. Two HDi saloons and a 2.0 coupe SE.
I'd still have my second one if I wasnt going to head to NY (Never Happened in the end). Still regret selling it. And I'd definitely still have my first one if my dad wasnt trading in his car for the 607. I just took his fresher, cleaner one and crammed in a load of stuff from my higher spec LX and made my dads one into an LX from an L. Flogged off the first one and gave the proceeds to Dad.
All in all, I'll have this coupe for a long time unless I can afford to trade up to a 2.2HDi 2003 SE with decent mileage. That wont be for a while as they're still going for around 6-8k here in Ireland
Edit: Just regarding the few previous posts. The saloon is a bit more comfy that the coupe. Of course it would be. But I know that feeling when you get out of a car after a long drive and you feel more relaxed than when you got in. The 307 or Xsara I had for a while couldnt do that. The 406 is up as one of the best cars ive ever driven from this perspective.
