thanks trem. lozz is kindly coming over to my house in the morning. he's gonna show me how to strip it off . once off we will nip down to general traffic (only 5 mins away) and get a replacement.

checked the shoes today and they seem really good so i will buy some brake cleaner and clean them off.

the park brake was also low. is adjusting the handbrake easy ? i'm sure lozz will know how 2.

any tips will help a lot 8)

Are these things all fairly similar?

My handbrake doesn't hold and I'll need to get it sorted before next MOT.
Tighten the cable up it can be done from the inside of the car on yours,
ithink you remove the ashtray to get at it,

they adjust up inside of the hub,
that will be easy enough to sort out,

did you soak that brake pipe where it goes into the cylinder with wd40 ?
Might be worth doing and leave it to soak over night if youve got some, just an idea,
they normaly untighten easy but ive had a odd Awkward one,

mot tester said its a bit weak on that side as well . inside drum is dry on drivers side so will just need adjusting along with handbrake.

ye and hopefully the brake pedal will be nice and firm cos you have to press it right down to get anything out of it.
