Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
only good thing about the serena, is
it comes standard with a none electric heated drivers seat.
The warmth of the engine located right under the seat,
yup they are noisey

i remember the warmth of the engine, it actually got a bit too warm in the serena, i remember my uncles vanette burst a water pipe and turned the inside of the van into a sauna.
Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
strangely ihad a problem with the rear heater in the serena ihad,
it blew constant cold so ihad alook underneath where isaw a metal pipe, rusty one, had alook at it and all of a sudden it went pop.
it nearly blew my face off with boiling water,
ihad no luck with it, glad igot rid it was a death trap of a thing,
best place for them is in the crush,

Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
i just checked, i seen the nissan serena was in a book i read, 6th place in top gears 50 crap cars.
Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
Yup it was pathetic, iagree with top-gear on that one,
the only good use ifound for mine was taking it up roads where cars wouidnt go, its stilt like suspension is good for going off road.
ihad to off road it a bit before itraded it in, iexpected some damage to the exhaust etc but it survived its last off roading sesion
they do have to be driven at a slow speed round corners tho as they go on 2 wheels iguess thats why they put big handles above the doors something to hold onto when it goes into flip mode,

Mitsubishi L300 had the engine under the seat.
Surprisingly quick for a 2.5D.
Lived on as a Hyundai for a while.

Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
i remember the old nissan was a flying machine, it was very free revving for an old diesel and you would get a good puff of black smoke under acceleration, the smiley ford transit i dont know what happened to its engine all the power was just turned into noise, dead is too fast a word to describe the performance.
Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
Transits are restricted (Governd) ithink,
there was a chap that brought me a transit last year, 55 reg, said he wanted the back axle changing,
there was nowt wrong with the one on it, just said he wanted this specific one fitting, itl give more torque,
the idiots race transits over here trying to keep up with Merc sprinters,
they even put Viper stripes on them.

Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
there definatley is something in them stopping the engine revving too much, i remember my uncle told me to go and move the van, which was back when the back field was a field and not 4 mushroom houses, so i took the transit out into the field expecting to have some fun with the RWD layout, but it was comically slow. No fun at all
But them old engines would go on forever.

Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
you can get a bit of power out of the modern ones,
but they dont last long,
the plastic guides for timing chains fail,
and they eat Diffs, theye same engine as whats in the Mondeo and some Black cabs, Crap engines,

Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
Edit: Seconded, they seem to suffer a lot from "sudden death syndrome" - pme day fne, the next completely dead and needing extensive & expensive repairs.
The 2.5 td has a very familiar injection system.
Oh look, yet another Trannie with a V8 stuffed in the back, almost as common as a Passat
All torque and no trousers... Driving an under-powered van is an art. Well, not really - use the accelerator as much as possible and the brake as little as possible. I had a (rhd) Transit high top when I was first over here and had hours of fun charging round all the twisty little back roads - mountain one side, cliff the other, tiny villages, chickens running for their lives, blind bends on roads not big enough to pass... I wouldn't do it now of courseFarmerPug wrote:there definatley is something in them stopping the engine revving too much, i remember my uncle told me to go and move the van, which was back when the back field was a field and not 4 mushroom houses, so i took the transit out into the field expecting to have some fun with the RWD layout, but it was comically slow. Re: Passat 4motion TDi?
but the smiley transit had a 2.5 non turbo engine, i thought they were very reliable and thats why ldv used them in their vans aswell.
