I've been trying to avoid any mention of southern resorts, knowing how upset you must be over Eastbourne Pier.
It's heartening to see you've adapted so well. :cheesy:

Went to Bath today a very beautiful city, then drove for fishguard but have stopped at a b&b in laugharne before getting the ferry tommorow. The car initially came with a 3/4 full tank and did about 160miles. I stopped at a mcdonalds on the motorway to use the toilet and got back into the car to start it and heard click, the lights had been left on, handily turning them off got it started up again.

The car made it home :cheesy:
Almost 600 miles travelled without any breakdowns, the suspension squeaked quite a bit, the brake pedal hissed sometimes but it got there, its much smoother than the other 305 mainly because it doesn't have a clattery camshaft, some of the hills in wales took a bit of time but the auto box can be manually locked in the lower gears which gave better performance, there doesn't seem to be a kick down function. But its still a very comfy car with super soft 1980s french seats.
The car cost me £100, and comes with a number of boxes of spares which are easily worth that alone, not to mention the fact the car itself has mot and tax until next may, it also came with a 3/4 full tank of fuel. The chap that sold it wasnt looking to make a profit but wanted it to go to a good home.

Some sums were done and i reckon the car has delivered 34.53MPG, initially i was expecting 25 so this has been a nice surprise. And it has included twisting mountain roads, town driving, traffic jams and motorways so a very good combined average.

With over 500 miles done i can say i didnt see another 305 on my way, there was so many vw campers and minis that they can be called common, other old interesting stuff include a few austin maestros, there was also a very nice BRG MG Maestro EFI (possibly turbo?) on the isle of wight for sale, i also seen a few Audi 80s, an early vw passat, quite a few capris, a Citroen CX estate. Although this is the first time i seen one of these in the wild, its even rarer than the 305.

With a bootful of spares, 3/4 tank of fuel, a years tax and mot its not too bad.
It did cost quite a bit to get it home, flights 3 ferries and the driving might have added up to £500.

I did see one 305 back in northern ireland about a month ago it was a dark blue/navy van, any 305s left here are usually vans there was once a time they were as common as ford transits on the roads.

The main issue i have is storing these cars, the garage down at home is full with the red 305, and i don't like leaving stuff down at the farm as its likely to get hit with a forklift, its also difficult doing any sort of work on cars at the farm as its quite busy and you can't leave parts sitting around as they usually disappear or get in the way. I have been saving up for a H2 shed, one of these:
http://www.h2engineering.co.uk/sheds.asp

But my uncle (frank) rented a mushroom yard off my other uncle (Sean) who is retired, the yard was used for spawn running the mushroom compost before it came down to the main yard, the way he buys in compost changed so the yard as of this week isn't being used anymore, so i had a bit of a talk and decided to rent one of the mushroom houses off sean, its cheaper than buying a shed and there is a tonne of space inside it, its also quite dry with a good flow of air in it which is important for keeping the rust away.

My cousin joe who is seans son is also storing his cars in it, the grey one is his daughters polo, and the golf was one purchased last week.

The insurance on the blue 305 runs out on monday so it will be getting stripped down to get rid of the rust and paint it, here is the album for it showing perhaps excessive detail of its bodywork:

I was talking to that seller last night thinking there might be a good front valence but its rusty aswell, he is also restoring a 305, but its interesting to see a phase 1 305 albeit a very rusty one.

This is another yoke i spotted last night a 604 they are extremely rare.

I started into stripping the Red 305 this week, now I'm storing the cars up in the mushroom house it is right beside my cousins shed which conveniently has a 2 post lift so removing the engine was a doodle, the car is back in the mushroom house so the rest can be stripped down, so far I've taken one door apart and it was also very easy with the exception of the stainless steel trim that runs along the bottom of the window edge, it took a while to figure out a technique to remove but they do come off:

Now for the inevitable pictures of rust:

There is bits of rust in the front corners the front valence is the most noticeable, but both wings have also got a bit, having said that its not too bad, its mostly in areas which will not be seen so the repair does not need to be perfect:

That bottom corner of the front wings - is (was) there a mounting point for the front bumper which suffers corrosion?

Excellent progress though please keep it coming :cheesy:
