The car made it home
Almost 600 miles travelled without any breakdowns, the suspension squeaked quite a bit, the brake pedal hissed sometimes but it got there, its much smoother than the other 305 mainly because it doesn't have a clattery camshaft, some of the hills in wales took a bit of time but the auto box can be manually locked in the lower gears which gave better performance, there doesn't seem to be a kick down function. But its still a very comfy car with super soft 1980s french seats.
The car cost me £100, and comes with a number of boxes of spares which are easily worth that alone, not to mention the fact the car itself has mot and tax until next may, it also came with a 3/4 full tank of fuel. The chap that sold it wasnt looking to make a profit but wanted it to go to a good home.
Some sums were done and i reckon the car has delivered 34.53MPG, initially i was expecting 25 so this has been a nice surprise. And it has included twisting mountain roads, town driving, traffic jams and motorways so a very good combined average.
With over 500 miles done i can say i didnt see another 305 on my way, there was so many vw campers and minis that they can be called common, other old interesting stuff include a few austin maestros, there was also a very nice BRG MG Maestro EFI (possibly turbo?) on the isle of wight for sale, i also seen a few Audi 80s, an early vw passat, quite a few capris, a Citroen CX estate. Although this is the first time i seen one of these in the wild, its even rarer than the 305.
