yeah thats what i say to my dad when he says they are craply built the design of the cars was spot on just the people didnt put them together right so they are just big kit cars where for convenience of packaging they are roughly assembled.
the cx though they look well enough made the engines in them were supposed to be reliable

there Horrible looking things,
Every modern classic seems to go through a phase of new-nearlynew-used-banger-'havent seen one of them in a while'-rare-classic.

The 405 I would say is in the 'havent seen one of them in a while' phase. Too few on the ground now to be a proper banger, but not quite rare/classic just yet.

The likes of the mk5 Cortina that couldve been picked up for pennies, now are classics.
As are decent Sierras.

The looks may not be to everyones tastes, but I think it is gorgeous and typically French with the elongated wedge shape and enclosed rear wheels. Definitely prefer the phase 1 chrome bumpers to the phase 2 big bumpers.

These were the days when at the weekend dads across the land would be under the bonnet of the car.
Not like nowadays where bonnets are sealed and nothing gets done on the car lest it void the warranty.
To quote one Audi driver I know "Why should I check tyre pressures? I let the Audi dealer do that at service time."

Pre-fuel injection and electrical sensors, the big French engines could go on for 100s of thousands of miles.
That's why the 504 was popular in Africa.
The French make simple stuff extremely well. Even the XUD was regarded as the finest diesel at it's time.

the 309 has entered the where the f**k did they all go phase, so is the smiley transit.
but simplicity is the reason i like the old 305 so much, its just a 1.9 diesel no turbo, no electric gizmos just a very basic and rugged old car. Its also in the endangered list.

309s are extinct.

Saw a 205 on the motorway the other day. Couple of dents but no rust.

Saw a 405 in active use towing a large boat on the Saintfield Road.

But 305s - did the rust get them? Fond of them, especially the saloon which I thought was a quite elegant design.
Most of the ones that come on gumtree are vans.

why did the 309 go extinct the xud especially was bombproof and they were a good spacious car.
The 305 van i had was a proper rust bucket, wings and the sills were beyond repair, then i lifted the carpet out of the front to find thick card covering up a hole where ones feet goes, i always thought it was very communicative over the rough ground you nearly could feel the stones hitting your feet :cheesy:
but i really liked the old 305, i want an estate one very much.

My bro had a 309 GTi, I was driving my BXs at the time and the build quality didn't compare at all - it was designed as a replacement for the Talbot Horizon and boy, did it show it! My favourite bit was when you shut the windows the motors carried on going so the door card bulged outwards into the car - my bro has fond memories it, I thought it was a steaming pile of dog's doo.

I had a 309 GRi on a H plate back in 1996 it was. I remember the 'bulging door' thing in fact the doors were paper-thin.

It also had a comedy air-powered slidey sunroof seal. I hankered after a GTi for ages, a 3-door with the 'remote' pop-out rear quarter window things. Then there was the rare 'Goodwood' with levvers but yes all in all a bit of a tin-pot excuse of a car really :|

That Coupe above is an easy 'fixerer' for Croat standards

If I had 2k to spare... Looks like it's not the first time it's been "fixerered". The wing would need beating straight (always possible here) but the bumper would be a problem, it's lurking in the bottom of the 2nd & 3rd pics but I doubt there's much left of it, a new one would be silly money, even 2nd hand from Ade it'd be getting here without C&E deciding it's made out of gold...

Today's "lets mash the keyboard and sell a car" numbnut gumtreers:

'for' - http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-moto ... r/81920951

The worst alternative spelling of Citroen I've seen yet - http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-moto ... l/81920304

A radioactive Citroen with another alternative spelling - http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-moto ... 5/81915099

The usual gumtree way of spelling Citroen (although the rest of the ad isn't too bad, shame about the lexarse lights) - http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-moto ... 2/81911168

BUYYY A SAB WITH LOTS OF EXSTRAS http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-moto ... d/81916249

jeez these are definatley a good laugh today
the first one the 'for' low ins easy on petrol, imagine that person in a debate.
how cant they spell citroen (forgiving the fancy dots over the o) its been conveniently printed onto the car for refrence purposes such as when you go to sell it, especially when spelt as citron some french person may thing you selling a lemon. The saxo one doesnt even have an excuse citroen is there in the picture for them.

as for the sab, its down as a trade seller, and yet they cant spell.

It may only be a lowly petrol model, but I think this looks like a tidy, genuine bargain:
