Easy way to tell is to open the doors & look around the edge for the sealant. On one that has been done properly it is a very flat & even all the way round. The earlier ones look like a monkey was let loose with one of those bathroom gun thingys.
Someone told me, the dirt gets onto the seal, and vibrations in the door scratch through the paint and then rust stes in
They said to religiously clean the seal to prevent this

Whether that works or not?

Religious cleaning is good to prevent rust whatever the car. They can also rust under the trims at the bottom of the windows where the metal on the trims scratch the paint.

Hmmm, so how do I find out the model of the alarm / immobiliser fitted to the car?

No matter what I do with the quote page on meercats when it goes through to the RAC site it defaults to thatcham etc.

Edit: just found how to change it on the RAC site to "Factory Fitted Non-Thatcham Alarm/Immobiliser", and it hasn't affected the price, happy days :)

i cannot remember my premiums dropping when i hit either 21 or 25. i think the yearly rise in premiums cancels any discount for reaching a certain age, indeed if said discounts actually exisist at all :x i turned 30 last year but had only just got the 406v so cannot comment on that, but generally i have paid around the 400-500 quid mark for the last 5 years. the 1.2 corsa i had was near as damn it 400 quid to insure fully comp and the 406 fully comp is only bout a hundred pound more. i feel for young drivers trying to insure their cars now adays i managed to insure my first car for 650 tpft. it was a nail of a 1983 vw polo, that was in 1997

In 1996 (aged 18) I insured a Mk2 Granada 2.8i for £1000 & begrudged paying that as it was £300 more than I paid for the car. Now people of similar age are paying twice that to insure a roller skate!
