My bro had a 405 in that colour, he never serviced it (eejit!) and drove it like a nutter, yet it kept going for years. Eventually I took pity on it and serviced the poor thing myself. Last I saw of it he traded it for a 406 (which later became my 1st 406 8) ).

I had a 405 back in the mid ninties, it was a 1.6GR, so it had a few toys. That was my introduction to Peugeots, my first little bit of luxury. They were definitely more flimsy than the 406, but still nice cars.

If you have time, when they make you an offer you should say ''I will think about it'' then have no more dealings with them.

Eventually they will come back and want to offer more to get it off their books and close the case.

In theory you could get more by waiting, although if you have a hire car you might have to agree something with them and start looking for a new car because as soon as you settle up the hire car will go back.

You should be prepaired to have a figure in mind (from similar cars on Autotrader) and settle up and move on, I wouldn't even bother trying to recover the car back and get it fixed, there are loads of 406's out there and prices seem to have fallen further. I saw a 52 plate HDi 110 sat nav etc. with 98000 in Midland Autotrader this weekend for about 3000.00

Well done on keeping the car till you get an offer.

Unfortunately, when my Nissan Primera (N reg with 70K on the clock in 2002) had a bonnet failure that smashed the windscreen, sunroof and buckled the roof, it was carted away and I never saw it again. A few days later the insurance company said they were writing it off, and then said my insurance was invalid and as such would not pay for the car.

I never got the car back.

F**kers!

?2600.00 is okay considering the mileage, Insurance companies seem to be getting the prices about right TBH, they were pretty much on the mark with the FTO, they even 'factored in' some minor cosmetic issue which 'would' have affected any possible private sale in the future even though they were looking at a mashed up car at the time.

(no flies on them lot I can tell ya).

I wonder what my 99 T exec HDi is worth now ?

Supa, with 3 bags in your pocket the world of 406's awaits.

On Autotrader, I've just seen an 02 plate HDi 110 at a dealer in Kingswinford (where?) for ?2750.00

There's loads of others too!

I'll try and put you off:
  • They are the OLD wheels
The front splitter is missing (normally after some front end cosmetic surgery)
It is a LOT of money (for the mileage)
It's got a poxy phone holder
Your passengers will go even more gooey on you with the Leather!
Actually, is the 03 reg THE last of the 406's?

I think it's a lot of money anyway, it certainly seems a lot.

I reckon for ?3 to 3.5 you should get a corker, say around a 51 or 52 reg.

This seems to be a last of line exec (minus sat-nav), but badged as a GLX to keep the price down. It's got all the trim, and you seem a lot like me, I love a car before I buy it. I then play into the saleman's hand. I can give advice, but I then ignore my own advice. Can't really comment on the price. Let us know if you test drive it. I know mileage isn't a problem, my 1998 I just got rid of has 171,000 on the clock and drove like a dream.
