Can I increase the power?

Post by flyerdave »

I have an unmodified 406 1.9LXTD 1997

Is there anything I can do to increase the power? Is there a remap available for this model?
Looking for another 406

You have a mechanical fuel pump. You can get more power out of it for free ;) Isn't that great eh? :P

You can simply turn up the boost and turn up the fueling. Biggest problem with the 406 though is the fuel screw is hidden under a metal plate...
This is how is it on a 406...

This is a picture without the plate...

You can also get a little more power by getting a panel air filter and a straight through exhaust system.

You can also run your car on pure cooking oil :)

Will it provide me with fish and chips afterwards? :)

The "Felt spec" 306 dTurbo owners are fond of screwing down their fuel lines.

Too much and you will put out reeks of black smoke every time you accelerate.

The local constabulary / VOSA may or may not take kindly to it.

Depends how much your screw in the max fuel really dosen't it?
If you screw it in too much you just control your right foot until the turbo's on boost, then you boot it. The only reason diesels have black smoke it cause it can't burn the fuel that is being put on. Simply fix really, just don't put too much fuel in?

Another option is methanol injection...

Have a read of that.

I agree totally Bailes. The power is in your hands! (or at least the spanner :D )

Try telling that to the local NI boy racers (usually rural and running on "red"), following them on a country road is potentially dangerous as they can all of a sudden put the foot down and it's like a James Bond smokescreen, in black. :cheesy:

How does it affect reliability / longetivity of the XUDTs?

I know of a DTurbo, had it running 19psi with a mild tune, panel filter and a straight through exhaust and done 25k in it so far and the engines not missed a beat. Trying to get him to get methanol injection now. The XUD9TE's were detuned from the factory as they were considered to close to the 1.8 petrol engines performance wise.

Front the engine on the left hand side. You can see a silver "Ufo" just to the side of the blue hose in this picture!

Image
I removed the black clip and unscrewed the top bolt (obscured by the wire in the photo) it wouldnt budge at all.

Also where did you put the induction kit on your previous photo? i been looking into doing something like this myself but haven't found a good point to put the intake
