"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Re: Forget the Germans
The s type is the back wheel drive one with the big retro grille, the x type is a mondeo yes but indeed its swankier, i sat in one and it was very had to say i was in a ford, but i did look at the engine and seen the oval printed on there. Though you will still get away with it, you can still call it the JAAAAAG.
If your after brute force there is the XJ-R though you wont see great running costs from one of those.

And i think the s and x type jags got a good reputation for reliability.

Re: Forget the Germans
Spent the evening skimming www.jaguarforum.co.uk.
Sounds like all the same old problems with the diesels: DMFs, FAPs, and even wacky electricals.
I guess their big V8s are suppose to keep plebs like me out. They obviously have a lot of £.
You lot seem much nicer

Re: Forget the Germans
Don't forget the injectors too. X-Type is basically an upper-class Mondeo. Jag diesel engines are the TDCis from the Mondy.
Funny thing is though, the 3.0 is supposed to use the same engine as the ST220, but in Jag trim they manage to get 245bhp out of it.

Re: Forget the Germans
i think the 3.0v6 diesel is a similar if not the same one found in the 407 and C5. Though if you buy a big old v8 it would take lpg well.

Re: Forget the Germans
Neighbour two doors up has a Jaguar X-type 2.5 V6 AWD.
He gets 20-30mpg, 40mpg on a motorway run.
It's not once got stuck in the snow.
It's very very well specced.
It's pretty quick.
It sounds lovely.
It handles beutifully.
Now I wonder how easy it would be to get that AWD system into a MK3 Mondeo

(Thanks.)
Oh, hang on, 2.5 V6...

Re: Forget the Germans
the awd system in the mondeo isnt it in the st220 models or at least some version of it.
But if your looking a jag get a real JAAG ie something long, with a big petrol engine at the front, a big auto box in the middle, and a big rear wheel drive a the back. I was in an old XJ the basic version the straight 6, it sounded devine, and i like the cosy low cabin and coupe driving style about it, something feels nice about sitting in an old jag, something an old lexus doesnt have.

Like this?
The original Jaguar XK8 (naturally aspirated 4.0 or 4.2 litre V8) and XKR (supercharged 4.0 or 4.2 litre V8) can be had for comparatively little money - as low as £5,000
OR:
The newer version of the Jaguar XK (naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8 with direct fuel injection) and XKR (same, but with a beefier supercharger on it) is a little bit more expensive.
