Yep i know when i was looking for a 406 i wanted a hdi because, i had 2.0 hdi in my 206 in 2001and it was a brill car.
But kinda bought this 1.9td xud with a bit of resentment because i wanted the hdi, but it's seems a to be a better engine although a little be less powerful, but then again i dont do any towing.

Ideally keep it in the plastic Cubee, let it settle for at least 1 week then filter the good oil.
It will prob end up looking like this:-

Good oil at the top that needs filtering. Pour all the crap all together and continue settling, eventually more good oil appears.
You need to filter it down to 1 Micron, then put into the car.
You can buy filter bags on ebay, just search for "filter bags micron", or instead buy filter housing which you'll need a pump to pump the oil through.

Filter Bags 1 Micron http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0600434307
Filter Housings http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0508180233
With the filter housing you'll need a Tam 105 pump from Machine Mart.
Easy to start off with the bags, you just need a bucket to filter into.
Also filter at the temperature you will be driving in, meaning filter in the garage and not in the house.

I filter through a 100 micron dish filter, then a bedsheet, then 10 micron filter, then a 1 micron filter and into the car.

be carefull using veg oil in cold weathers.

the oil gets air bubbles in and the car doesnt run properly , local guy who makes bio told me that, its best to only run xud on veg oil in summer

thats why i decided not to use it, at 45mpg round town and doing only low miles i thought its not worth the hasstle

Load of rubbish mate, I've used Veg all winter been -12 here and mines been perfectly fine on it. Been mixing it with 10% Petrol.
Aslong as its settled and filtered properly and mixed with petrol then they shouldn't be a problem.

Bit of hunting sometimes on first start up, revs 700-1k for 30 secs or so, but absolutely fine after that.
I've even put in cloudy oil, due to weather it went to sh!t, still ran perfectly.

Right, make sure you have good glow plugs! You'll need them.
Get the waste veg oil and leave it to settle for around 2 weeks, the big chunks should rest to the bottom of the containers.
Get another container, a funnell and some J Cloths. Put the J cloth in the funnel and filter the oil at the top of the containters through the funnel/jcloth and into the new container. Make sure you don't put the crap thats settled to the bottom through, this is water and fat etc. Once you've done that you now have oil that should be OK for running through the car.
During winter add 1 litre of petrol and 200ml two stroke per 20-30litres of veg oil.

Once it'#s prepared stick it straight in.
This is what I do with my (now my Mums) 406. I have an old central heating container and I mixed old filtered oil and fresh oil (70ppl) 50/50 with some petrol and two stroke.
Bit of a pain to get started in the cold due to crap glow plugs but once it's warm it's fine :)

The oil will exadurate any problems you have with the fuel system, i.e. any leaks will show up even more, any air leaks will become more apparent.

You will need to do at these intervals the following after first runnign veg oil...

150-200miles - Change fuel filter
400 miles - Change Fuel Filter
1000miles - Change fuel filter, oil and oil filter.

Then every 6000miles after change the oil, oil filter and fuel filter.

Any cheap 10w40 semi synthetic oil will do, you can pick it up for about £15 in some places and filters are a few quid in motorfactors.

Can you use oil filtered down to 10 micron's or does it need to be down to 1 micron?

Theres a place that filters down to 10 micron and selling it 35p a litre.
