Fuel Consumption!!

Post by Woody »

Hi Chaps, who's getting the most out of there 406 fuelwise? Based on weather petrol or diesel, or the type of motoring done. My car is a D9 2.0 HDi estate, but just recently I am only doing very low miles per week. Infact It's all urban and where I live in Rossendale Lancashire, It's very up dale and down dale. I only use the car to get to and form my unit or to the post office, and the fuel consumtion is pretty bad at the moment. But the best I've ever seen on my display screen is 28.4 mpg, and thats on a good run without cainning it!

I belive my car has been chipped, but I was under the impression it would make it more fuel efficiant aswell a more power, but this is not the case with mine. It's the thirstiest diesel car I've ever had  And it doesnt harf kick out some smoke on a cold start, can be seen from the Moon. :supafrisk:

We had a D9 Saloon HDi 90 we used during the summer, and we was showing 49.8 mpg on the display, It was a really bonny car too. Really clean inside and out. And I only reason I sold it was because I needed an Estate.

So who get's the best mpg out of there 406

Get your HDi looked at and get a proper remap from MrWhippy or someone, I think your HDi is broken.

I doubt that very much. They get regular and random checks to make sure that there correct.

I've just got 385 to £55

Rough guess that's 10 gallons, so 38.5mpg

Usually it averages 41.5 so only a tad down

As for better fuel economy from the remap, guess it's all down to the person doing the map

Mines running a 140bhp remap, decatted and a stainless powerflow egg sauce from a V6 coupe. and as above 41.5mpg

Speaking of fuel pump fiddling!!

I have a Volkswagen LT35 Car Transporter ex sainbury's shopping trolley converted. Runs on LPG converted from the dealer or somthing when nwe, has a 230 merc 4 cyl engine anyway. Had an account with Pioneer gas company in Rochdale, for refills. Used to cost me around £60 to fill from empty on a good day from a regular petrol station. I went to fill up on his forecourt and I knew my tanks were half full! Nearly fell on the bloody floor when thay gave me the bill for £75.00. Jeeze I said It s never cost me that much from empty on the motorway services on the outskirts London!

Most of his customers were taxi drivers takin' £25 at a time, and probably never noticed.

But I have 2 X 50 ltr tanks strapped under the back, i felt the differance allright!!

So who's monitering him ??

lpg is a bit hard to get the same in all the time, depends on the weather mainly, sometimes i can get 40 litres in my dads pissan, but then on good days 60 litres. but its a 70l tank.

we used to run a ldv 400 on gas
ok we ripped the td lump out and put a rover V8 in it
that had a 140litre tank, and could only get 100litres into it (refilling max)
tank strapped to chassis, so maybe compared to an internal tank made some difference

LPG on a normal petrol car doesnt really have any advantage, sure the consumption is much lower, but you still have a weedy petrol. It really only suits engines above 2.5 litres

Our old 406 HDi did 50 mpg winter or summer, but that was all motorway driving.

BTW Woody, my daughter lives in Rawtenstall :D

Motorway driving is good for economy, it suits the 406 perfectly.
