I understood the LUK clutches were pretty good?

I think you should buy the best quality you can afford to, especially as you don't really want to re-visit the clutch job after you've already done it :|

Lists as an 8-hour job and if anyone tries to say they can do it in less time is cutting corners. There's a load of prep work to do in removing stuff just to get near the thing.

You have to buy the flywheel and the clutch 'kit' which includes all the relevant parts of the clutch.

£200.00 sounds cheap to be honest - does your mechanic live in a cardboard box under the flyover?

Ah my dear welly , sorry but i have to disagree , jasper and his mechanic friend did mine
in 5 hrs . As i was present all the time they did it i can assure you they did not cut corners,
experience counts i guess . And as regards the dmf debate mine was the original and the
last 2yrs of its life my car had been re-mapped and i could really have gotten away with
leaving it on but as the clutch was being done ...... :|
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron

my mechanic lives in the same place as i do, the counryside, although his house is a mile away from his shed. On my mums old 106 diesel when the head gasket went he charged £350 to put it right, that included all the work and then getting the heads skimmed etc.

OK puggs, I guess the 8 hour thing is an average for average-type mechanics (fags, tea-break, fags,....) but Jasper is a super-agent mechanic with special powers so not surprised he had is within 5 hours 8)
