Re: Solid flywheel conversions
I understood the LUK clutches were pretty good?
I think you should buy the best quality you can afford to, especially as you don't really want to re-visit the clutch job after you've already done it

Lists as an 8-hour job and if anyone tries to say they can do it in less time is cutting corners. There's a load of prep work to do in removing stuff just to get near the thing.

Re: Solid flywheel conversions
You have to buy the flywheel and the clutch 'kit' which includes all the relevant parts of the clutch.
£200.00 sounds cheap to be honest - does your mechanic live in a cardboard box under the flyover?

in 5 hrs . As i was present all the time they did it i can assure you they did not cut corners,
experience counts i guess . And as regards the dmf debate mine was the original and the
last 2yrs of its life my car had been re-mapped and i could really have gotten away with
leaving it on but as the clutch was being done ......

Re: Solid flywheel conversions
my mechanic lives in the same place as i do, the counryside, although his house is a mile away from his shed. On my mums old 106 diesel when the head gasket went he charged £350 to put it right, that included all the work and then getting the heads skimmed etc.

Re: Solid flywheel conversions
OK puggs, I guess the 8 hour thing is an average for average-type mechanics (fags, tea-break, fags,....) but Jasper is a super-agent mechanic with special powers so not surprised he had is within 5 hourspuggy wrote:Ah my dear welly , sorry but i have to disagree , jasper and his mechanic friend did mineWelly wrote:Lists as an 8-hour job and if anyone tries to say they can do it in less time is cutting corners.
