can sum tell me how to find the neg wire using my new multimeter

my interior light has got 4 wires going to it , all i need to know is "which is neg ?"

how do i find out which of the 4 is a neg ?

Make sure you've got DC Volts selected.

compare the voltage on all 4 with a good earth - (outside ring of cigar lighter should do).

when you get the right one(s) you will get a reading of 0.00 V or thereabouts - look at it carefully, if it's a 'positive' that's not live when you test it, it will be 'floating' i.e. near zero, but probably varying a bit. A 'genuine' negative will show a static reading at, or very close to zero.

throw up a few pics of the sort of mutimeter you have bought they are all different but do the same thing.
