Help persuade me?

Post by Bailes1992 »

I really need another 406 :(
I now have no money to buy another.
I can get £1500 quite easilly I reckon for the Ford.
I would like a D8 GLX 1.9TD.

Whats putting me off?

Well I bought my 406, it was a dog.
Becca bought her S reg Clio, It was a dog.
Shes just bought a 2003 Punto and when they changed the coolant it came apparent it was stuffed full of radweld and the headgasket was nackered.

It seems most car's post 8 years old seem to be complete dogs? Maybe thats the reason people are getting rid of them and there holding onto the good ones?
I reckon I could could an S or T reg D8 GLX for £800 if I tried which gives me enough money to give the engine a good service and change the belts also get the seals changed in the fuel pump to run cooking oil and have a little stash of money for other things to go wrong.

I'm really liking this currently...

It's a 150mile trek but I could get the train and drive it home, but what if it dosent make it home? :|

Should I just hold onto the Ford, better the devil you know then the devil you dont?
Or should I bite the bullet and get another Peugeot?

I havent, but with rising fuel prices and my undying urge for another 406 I think it would be a good idea to get one

Plus I want a D8 for the 1.9TD engine, can run it on cooking oil then :)

my car is a 1998 (almost 13 years old)
and it certainly isnt a dog.
and it certainly is a lot tidyer than most R reg cars you see about these days
i paid for it 2 years ago £650 (and i bet i can still get that if not a little bit more back for it today)
you just have to look around mate at a few, DONT JUMP AT THE 1ST ONE YOU SEE,
i went looking at about 5 cars that day i bought my 406 then went back for another look before i bought it,
you sound like my mates next door, they buy the 1st car they see (bad mistake)

I didn't buy my 406, my old Boss did (who's supposed to be a mechanic and tests engine for Ford, but thats another story).
Becca bought her Clio in an Auction and her Punto at a dealers.

Maybe I should find a few local 406's and see whats what :)

Thing is my insurance company hate me on anything 2 litre and above. It's a premium of about £200 over the 1.9.
A GLX has all the toys an executive does but without the leather. So I can get the 1.9TD, fully specced and just fit leather when I have the money to do so.

I'm thinking of waiting till the summer holidays, that way I can get a few extra hours in here and there and get abit more cash together.

Another option is ask my Uncle if he wants to swap me his 406 for the Focus considering he's going abroad for 6 months of every year but maybe not.

How old are you? I'm 18 and to insure a 406 1.9TD L (i.e. my old 406) is an extra £90 over my Focus wich is newer, worth more, faster and better specced?

I only paid £1200 for my first year.
Cheapest I could get this year was £1370ish on the 406 or £1280 on the Focus :(
