Installing Windows XP

Post by FarmerPug »

Here is a problem im having installing the Windows Xp on my Macs bootcamp, i bought the cd off ebay, it said SP1 which is no biggie as xp can be updated to sp2, or sp3 if needed. But Xp is installed on the laptop now, but in order for it to gain control of most of the laptops features like the built in wifi it needs me to put in a cd supplied by apple to give it the drivers, but this cd needs service pack 2. But i cant get online because i havent got the driver for the modem which needs service pack 2, and without the internet i cant activate it.

Plug the laptop directly in to your wireless router using a normal network cable. If you don't have one, you can buy them from PC World, Curry's, Comet, or even ASDA have them.

Once it's connected you can then download Windows XP Service Pack 3 via Microsoft.

That sounds like the last time I had to re-install XP myself - the wireless dongle thingy is USB 2, basic XP is 1.1 (I think) so I need to download the 2.0 driver to get the dongle thingy to work. But I can't connect to the Internet with the dongle to download the driver to connect the.... URGH! Thank f*** for the laptop.

Can you not download the relevant drivers using Mac OS?

If you've got SP1, then using a USB Flash Drive/SD Card would probably be the only method short of downloading and burning them onto a cd/dvd.

Your network card/wifi will not be picked up by the native drivers in Windows.

windows 7 doesnt work with the pp2000.
right so for the internet i found the dongle in the downstairs pc, then went looking for its cd because it didnt have a driver on the internet, but a new problem arose:

the mac cant take mini disks they jam it, so i had to transfer its files on my dads sony laptop to a usb stick:

so that got the internet sorted, i downloaded the updates, but then it got to service pack 2 and ive hit another wall.

and oh f*ck:

its not an issue of space:

theres plenty of space, i allocated 40gb of a partition for this which is more than enough, but im confused about this message.

It'll probably ask if you want to install XP. Back up all your documents and passwords first!
