the 508 hasnt grown on me yet, but the 405 definatley looks good, im quite a fan of its staight line 80s styling, damm why didnt peugeot make that, and why didnt they keep a big RWD car on sale.
but i really like these pair:
especially that convertable looks really good, but i suppose the coupe has better torsional rigidity which makes it apparently better to drive.

My dad had a 405 when iwas about 12, that was back when road tax was a newcastle brown ale beer mat it was a thirsty feckin thing he didnt keep it long and that was when petrol was about £1 a gallon ,
irember him having the replace the wiring loom in it as it had burnt out,
He hated it,
He had a Hilman imp before that so the 405 must of been shite as the Hilman imps where like the F.s.o aka the polonez - poor spec pathetic built shite cars,
sirwiggum wrote:Hillman Imp, would the engine over the RWD wheels not cause problems, or was it more mid engined? A mid engined RWD hatchback
The engine was behind the transmission/rear wheels, just like a Beetle or many Porsches and shared their tendencies to oversteer, however unlike the Beetle and early Porches it was all alloy with wet liners, leant well over to keep the c of g low.
both my uncles had 405s at the same time in the early 90's one had a phase 1 the other a phase 2. The pair had the normal 405 axle issues, but the phase 1 was non turbo and gave no trouble ever at all. The pase 2 got through 2 engines the first engine went early, the second engine was clapped out before it went in but the 3rd engine made it a very reliable car. They were diesels so economy was good.
ive seen one rover sd1 coupe on google.
the triumph stag was available as a coupe.
