2 years gone...

Post by Captain Jack »

Welp, it has been 2 years and 5 days of my second 406 ownership. In this time it has covered 40,000 miles and only failed to start when it was very cold (suspect glow plug relay which has a very loose earth wire).

It's getting rattly now but it has recently passed its MOT with only a side indicator being changed. But it's still as comfy as an old sofa and gets me places reliably.

Carry on....

What is it about these cars? I only intended to keep mine for a few months, but four years and 100k later I wouldn't change it. Big car comfort and huge estate boot at 55 mpg. I drive or travel in many types of vehicle as part of my job, but I still love the 406.

Where did you get the MOT done. Lintells?

I would normally, but I am more around Tunbridge Wells now than Somerset. Still, it was at another independent Cit/Pug specialist.

I know what about mean about 406's. First D8 I had for 5 years and it was bulletproof.

Crikey, that went quick! Seems like only yesterday you came back with tales of the horror of Honda ownership...

Doesn't time fly? Can't believe it's really 2 years, CJ.

Remember looking at your pics of an impossibly clean exec, seems like only yesterday.....

I remember being quite unimpressed with being 30 too - more or less having to accept not being a youngster anymore.
That was a long time ago and doesn't seem such a watershed in hindsight.
Celebrate it - I reckon your thirties are your greatest period of opportunity - make 'em count.

Ooooh 30, I remember that!

I've had my 2nd 406 for nearly 9 years now, never really had a plan for changing it but assumed when I bought it that I'd keep it 3 or 4 years. Don't think it'll be much longer though, just can't decide what I want to replace it with or whether I want to buy or lease. Either way the right vehicle with the right spec at the right price seems to be eluding me :(

5 years and 80k later and I still love it (my second)
strictly speaking it's never left me stranded, but its come close a few times.

I'm considering upgrading to a D8 (XUD) since I reckon the electrics will are a bit of a "ticking time-bomb" on the D9 -- or at least on mine at any rate. Simple is good.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Over the last 5 years, my bro's had 3 XUD's (405 / 306 / 406 ), I've had 2 HDi's, (Xsara Hdi 90 / 406 2.2 HDi).
Current score is 2 breakdown 'rescues' and 3 'tow it homes' for the XUD's and zero for the HDi's, (that's over 145,000 miles, so far). :cheesy:

one year of good car driving at the end of the month. Not a single problem from the engine or gearbox. Not a single other problem that was the cars fault, only problems caused by myself.
I spoke to a man the other day who parked behind my car, another china blue 406. Has 245,000 miles on it and sounds terrific, and is immaculate inside. He said in 6 years of ownership he has only spent about £300 on it.

One year of personal ownership and its been in the family for the last eight! I've fixed and repaired quite a few things during the past year, the first bother the car had given, all wear and tear stuff. However, my Pug has gotten steadily better and is now a great driving car :D I don't love it as much as I loved my 405 but it has grown on me. I intend to keep mine for a couple of years yet and get what I've spent on it back out of it 8)
