Tyre shop made my alloy wheel look like a Mechano set!

Post by Welly »

I finally decided to get a new tyre fitted as the old Continental jobby was looking very sorry for itself and kept asking me if I could let it go now because it had seen a nice Lay-by on the B4226 and it wanted to join it's other friends at the 'road side rest home for dodgy tyres'.........so anyway I let it go (I even offered for it to go and be used as part of a childrens playground but it wasn't interested).

Anyway I got a Goodyear Eagle NCT5 (to match the other rear tyre) but the tyre-jockey stuck two 30 gramme weights on the rim right next to each other and about 100mm long

I complained and got them removed and replaced with stick-on weights on the inside.

It is annoying when tyre places just think 'it's only a old 406' just stick them on the rims - I HATE SEEING THE WEIGHTS !!!!!!! you should be asked first.

How very dare they.

Yep I know I hate that, I didn't know they done stick on weights. But when I got a new tyre for my 19" from the company Blingmotors they put on stick on weights. Looks much better than rim weights.

Agreed, I always tell them to use stick ons. The crimp on ones look awful and damage the finish on the wheel. Especially as I resprayed and relaquered mine earlier this year so they are minty mint :cheesy:

Same thing happened to me. I'd just had me wheels refurbed and specifically asked for sticky weights, but the eejuts clamped on the weights to the rim edge

To say I was frothing was putting it mildly. They tried to poo poo it, but I threatened to nick 'em for criminal damage if they didn't make good and I ended up with the tyres for free, so I kinda broke even.

Possibly, a bit, but they had no 'lawful excuse' as they had no permission to use clamp ons, and thery were arguable 'careless or reckless as to whether such damage would occur' so it would have been a lawful nick.
