Watched Wheeler Dealers last night...

Post by Welly »

That Ed China bloke is a legend, they took a really sorry looking Sierra Saffire Cossy and made it look mint!

The doughnut they bought the motor from had barried-up the engine which was smoking and had a whiny gearbox, the interior was a shambles but never mind - Ed just got stuck in, stripped it all down and sorted it pronto!

He makes every job look like a piece of piss :o I can but watch in admiration.

Did you see the numpty who passed-up on the car for the sake of a few hundred and walked off  I've always fancied a proper Cosworth ever since I drove my mates one back in the early 90's :)

Ed seems to know his stuff, wouldn't mind him as the local mechanic.

He was on Top Gear (new) season 1 where he built a James Bond car.

Though I wonder does he do the "camera" bits and have a team of mechanics to help with the heavy work?

I remember the day they had a Vitara that they couldn't get welded for MOT, sold it as an off-road car only.

And when Mike totals it up, he doesn't take Ed's time into account. For example, if any of us muggles were to buy a car, drop it to a mechanic to get rebuilt, we would be looking a shedload of labour cost + VAT

It used to be on Men and Motors (RIP), I think it may be on Discovery Turbo.
Any chance of it getting shown on Quest?

It's a great show, I love watching it.

I watched Ed doing the timing belt and water pump change on the Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi. Made it look so easy.

I wonder if we'll see a 406 Coupe on a future episode...

It wasn't a vitara, it was an SJ, they gave it a new engine and did a SPOA convestion on it, made it look quite tidy too. Then that BS about the welding, what a load! As long as the chassis is OK (which they always are on suzukis) pretty much any bodywork stuff can be sorted, I speak from experience, you should see how much welding I've done on mine.

Anyone wanna buy it?

Top show, I find myself watching repeat episodes all the time. Saw them fix up some old Merc last week, fitted a new convertible top, again, made it look like a piece of piss

There have been a few instances of Ed getting in a bit of trouble...

One was a very early episode (I think it might even have had Quentin Wilson in it too?) with a 305 or 306 with dodgy drivers door wiring, and I think the other that springs to mind was a recent ep where he nearly knocks himself out with the diff from a BMW 840  Oh, and there was the Lancia Delta Integrale with the knackered alternator which he discovered was a bitch to change

Quality guy though, and I do like the show, although it'd be better without wasting 15 mins of the hour listening to Mike Brewer repeating what they've done to the car before and after every bloody advert break  Don't these producers "get" that the primary demographic of their programme is people who just want to see the innards of engines?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
