Fuel price comparisons

this is in answer to one of mr earwigs posts really, i was interested in seeing the price of fuel in his neck of the woods, so i thought lets have a little thread on fuel prices round the members localities,

i will start, somewhat appropriately i am sat in a local fuel station as i type this having a bite to eat before my next lesson.

Poland/Warsaw
Statoil (Russian supplier i believe)
unleaded 95 ron 5.02 zloty = £1.07
unleaded 98 ron 5.14 zloty = £1.09
unleaded 100 ron 5.37 zloty = £1.14

Diesel standard 5.05 zloty = £1.08
Diesel Extra 5.14 zloty = £1.09

These are fairly typical prices for round here but remember this is the capital city so they are a touch higher than i can get 30km outside the city where i live but only by maybe a Groszy or two(the bit after the decimal zloty and groszy = pounds and pence)

these prices have been flying up over the last 4 weeks, i have just swapped my disco diesel for a scabby arsetray petrol but 4 weeks ago when i chopped in the disco diesel was 4.62 a litre so you can see the hike in price

Prices at all of the above forecourts just 2 weeks ago was more than 10 p/L less.

Compare the above with Stornoway, which in January (i.e. before the recent unrest in the Middle East) reported pricing in the range of 142.9 p/L for Unleaded 95 and 144.9 p/L Diesel.

Robbing bastards. It's just another cash cow for the government, and a way of lining oil company bigwigs' pockets. They need to bring down fuel prices as it's absolutely killing the country, and it's always the little people (small businesses, short-to-mid-range courier/haulage companies, and taxi firms) that are suffering the most.

Btw how much is heating oil in blighty these days? An average house here will burn about 5,000 litres over winter, if you think your fuel bill is high...

veg oil 99.9p my car is doing really good on it. there is nothing but pure straight veg oil in my tank now

Texaco in the moy £1.36.9 for diesel, on the other side of the moy an independant seller has diesel at £1.43 theres not much incentive to go to him.
I havent been near the filling station in monaghan yet but i want to go down to the border to see if the diesels much cheaper in the ROI.

Ther is a petrol station near my work which is named "refinery filling station" as it is right next to the CONOCO / Total refinery and by some twist of irony its the dearest fuel in the area

Something HAs to be done. Everyone block the refineries again and rolling block the motorways. I just dont see hopw fuel prices can jump so quickly after the lybia thing, our firm bulk buys fuel and they say that the price has not gone up yet, but will be impacted by the lybia thing in about 6 weeks
That means that petrol stations are bumping the price up as soon as the media starts shouting trouble in the middle east, when the fuel they have left in their tanks and the fuel contracted to refill them over the following weeks is still at the lower prices.

I work for a haulage company some nights (not this one obvoiously) but i hear the drivers talking about a bonus if they get over 8mpg on a run.
the monthly bill for diesel was £200k i heard one say, so the fuel prices isnt only making an enthusiastic drive in the car more expensive, but all your food has to get there by lorry and thats stuff in the shops costs more.
Sign that fuel petition thing, its not hard to do.
This lybia issue cant be the sole reason for the prices going up, theres more countries than it making oil.

We dont get a fuel bonus yet, but they made us do all that SAFED training bollox, Safe And Fuel Efficient Driving, yeah right. If we drove like that, car drivers would hate us EVEN more
We do get an accident bonus of £500 a year which comes at christmas so thats a good incentive to be careful.
We also have to do that CPC crap as well now, Ive heard some drivers saying there is only one other profession in which you can go to prison trying to do your job. And thats prostitution
Everyone is saying the jobs not what it was, but we need trucks. I mean everything you see, eat, sit on, sleep on, watch or look at was brought in the back of a lorry. the country would stop dead without them, and the costs have to be passed on to the customer, who pass on the costs to us. its a lose lose situation

Ive been averaging 8.26MPG last month, i do about 1100 miles per week, my tank holds 400 litres and i fill it up on average about every 2 days, i think our depot has about 200 trucks and we have about 20odd depots around the uk.

Yes the drivers talk about this taco stuff, if the work too much can they really be put in prison, it seems a bit harsh.

No i work for DSV, it seems they are the biggest logistics company no one has heard of they say its the third largest in the whole wide world
digi tachos are the work of the devil
If we overspeed we can get fined
If we go one minute over driving time you can get fined.
If you have other tacho infrigments you can get fined or go to prison
I have to spend a good half hour just checking round the thing incase there is something wrong, one of our guys got stopped by Vosa and lost his licence due to worn tyres on his trailer and a couple of bulbs out

Driving hours are confusing, you can drive 4.5 hours before you have to stop for 45 mins, you can work for six hours before you have to have a break, you can drive for 9 hours and then have to have an hour before you can drive for 10 hours, but only twice a week, you have to have 45 hours break at weekends, you must have at least 11 hours off between shifts although that can be reduced twice a week
