Today's posts button?

Post by plod »

Tonight, I was logged on, and the misses asked for the laptop, and my lad nicked it off her afterwards
The lad asked if I wanted the laptop back and I said yes
He said, i've logged off the 406 club for ya!

Anyway means going through all the sections to find what i've missed

On many other forums I frequent, they have a today's posts button
Click on it, and it shows the topics of the last 24 hours
Any chance we can have one???

I know it sounds a bit much to ask for a button cus my lad did this but I know personally, sometimes you come back later to answer a question from earlier ot the day previous, and it would make it a lot easier to find posts in order to do this

I added the RSS feed to my Outlook (at work :supafrisk: ) and I find that I see more interesting stuff without having to rummage. Outlook shows you all posts with the newest first, and you can re-group them my topic.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Surely new posts button merely pulls up the "new posts" since last logged on

If you accidentilly log yourself off, or lose connection and haven't updated, then you've missed a load of posts

I can't remember ever seeing that on any forum, it's usually "view new posts" or "view posts since your last visit", which seem to bring up the same thing anyway, whether I've been logged on or not. I do know if I look at the new posts here, log off (or CC deletes the cookie for me) the next time I log on they're gone and I can only see new posts since then, so it's more a case of looking at them while they're actually there.

You could always just keep your son away from your laptop :P

Btw my nephew's just got into trouble at school for using proxy servers to get round the school's firewalls, plus being able to crack the security locks on all the doors to the bits the teachers don't want the kids getting too. He's 13. I just can't understand where he'd have got the ideas for that sort of thingImage

View new posts works OK for me, regardless of where I log in - my 'home' PC logs on automaticaly every visit, but on my 'work' computer, I type it in every time. Either way, I just get the posts I should.

Know what you mean there - I'm 99% relieved my kids never seem to get up to the kinda stuff I did, but a little bit of me's disappointed. :supafrisk:

I always log off, well I told the forum not to remember me. I just go straight to View New Posts and see what's what.

If you do lose some then the circular Icon on the left of the topic title stays in a Red highlighted colour to show you haven't read them.

Ok, some fair comments but

as I also said, what happens when you want to comment on a thread, or multiple threads that you seen earlier when you logged on and come back later

e.g. i'm logged on now before work, I know someone who could answer that, say asking my mechanic mate, but won't see him till i get to work
I come back on after work and log on, and if no one has posted on that thread, it won't come up on view new posts will it
You got to go searching for the thread
If you had a today's posts button, you can press that, see the thread from earlier, and reply to it

If someone has replied to that post it will be on the View New Posts list but if no-one has then it will be under 'Unanswered' posts. Failing this then it will still be highlighted red under the forum sections.

I do get what you mean though, I've had to trawl through the sub-sections before to find posts I want to reply to but I can't remember the circumstances leading to said trawling requirements Image

I always just use the "unread posts" button. Does the job for me.

I know i'm on a lost cause here, but

This morning, I log on to catch up before going work
About 15 or so threads
Get through 3 or 4
Boss rings and asks me to get to work asap
I log off
I lose 12 or so threads

A "Today's Posts" button would mean I could catch up

Ok, no one's listening
Rant over
