What's the difference between OE and Genuine Parts

Post by Welly »

As I said, what is the difference?

Example:

An Original Equipment air filter from a Pug Dealer would come in a nice Peugeot box but Peugeot don't make them, I understand that if it's OE then it's what Peugeot use at the Factory assembly line.

What about Genuine parts? are they made by the same Manufacturer as OE but just marketed in different packaging and prices? like Valeo for example?

....been bothering me for ages this......... :?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,
I always assumed that they were the same thing.
Pug will source its component parts from many various suppliers, and these are OE manufacturers.
"Genuine" to me implies that they are parts recommended and approved by pug for fitment aftermarket.
This is the best I can come up with welts!!?
Any better ideas out there????????/

No difference.

A "Genuine" part will come from Peugeot, with their markup on it. An OEM part will come from the original equipment manufacturer, it just won't have Peugeots branding on it.

Pattern parts are different - they are manufacturered by non-OEM manufacturers, usually to the same drawings as used by the OEM manufacturers, but may not be to the same quality standard - prime example is Halfords parts, but then they are cheap as chips and open on a Sunday.

I'm glad you asked, something I've often wondered.
