looks like it says rolls royce merlin on the badge in the last pic if it does its part of an engine from i think eather a spitfire or a lancaster bomber i think

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Merlin

my gramps used to build those engines when he worked for rolls royce in bristol many moons ago.

edit: it was the Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Are you telling me you can't read the last pic? Well, ok, I guess my brother got a bit too much flash in there. It says

ROLLS ROYCE MERLIN
SUPERCHARGER

And then there's a serial number.

Oddly enough my brother used to collect bullets and stuff we found as kids with a metal detector and has a fair old collection now which he's passed on to my nephew. Somehow I don't think that's going to fit into the cupboard though...

Who's going to write the Gumtree ad then?

tell him to put an add in the paper,
that might look like a peice of scrap but there might be somehistory to it histhorical,
No doubt they couid trace that to what ever bomber crashed in that location,

and theres the other option it may have been pushed overboard none -starters often were in the war so iwas told by my Grandad,
still worth looking into tho

ROOOLS ROYS MELRIN ENGEIN

nat lak yer usual rubbish, shes been in the c for a long time, runnin 100% mint, a few bits of rust, should be an easy fix.
no timewasters, £200,000,000

------------------------------------
but really you have a very good bit of history, merlin collectors could be queuing up for it.
Its important to state this could use parts from the merlin:

I've no idea what he'll do with it, he'll probably do something daft like donate it to a museum

I wouldn't be so surprised if RR could tell him loads of stuff from the serial number.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I'm thinking Rolls Royce would probably have records and be able to say what plane it was fitted to (unless it was a spare part which could have been fitted to any plane in a squadron). My bro's a regular visitor to Duxford so he'll probably be asking there first.

Given the situation I'd reckon (chucking non starters over the side notwithstanding) it's quite likely someone died but it's hardly dead man's shoes
