Need help

Any ideas why i am suddenly having petrol/thinners type fumes coming in thru to the interior of the car? This is more of a problem when stationary. Note: these are NOT diesel/cat/exhaust fumes, the car stinks like i've been cleaning brushes. Have popped the bonnet, slight smell on pollen filter, smell is stronger at the front of the engine/starter motor and it is the Passat, not a peugeot. And for the wiseguys, it IS a diesel and no I haven't put unleaded in it

No mate, found the problem, it was a tiny crack in the outlet of the filter housing, just about to chemiweld it up
Weird, it didn't smell dieselly at all
